This journey started so well with the guard of the park at the complete end of a dead end road north from krabi. Nice guys, funny, friendly and helpful. Do not forget to tip as the entrance is free not like places listed in the Lonely and so on. As long as it stays out of these guides the place will stay great. A BIG climb uphill. The view is the reward of a harassing hike through the jungle. The waterfall is not a must.

Locals all want to do it, but excuses are found to delay it! I was mentally prepared but still, the climb is not that easy for the regular folk like me (over 50, non smoking, reasonable shape). The return journey took me 5h to complete, with about one hour at the top, both to recuperate and to enjoy the views. The path is sometimes difficult and ardeous, although it is easy to follow. I started at 8am, some do start even earlier as they want to see the sunrise. It is also cooler in the morning. Good walking shoes are required although I saw younger people attempting the climb in thong sandals without water (I don't know whether they made it to the top!). It is probably good not to attempt the climb if it is raining, the path becoming too slippery to be manageable. The entrance is free, you just need to register your name and time in a book at the entrance. I must admit that I was happy to see the parking lot at the end. I had a nice massage at the end of the day. But the real good thing is that it truly gives spectacular views of the surrounding areas as well as a nice feeling of achievement. Really fit people won't have any trouble, but it is probably not advisable to bring young children to the top (you would not want to have to carry them at any stage of the path). Only one segment of the path consisted of stairs, the rest was made of stones, roots and plain soil. And yes, don't forget water and possibly insect repellent.
