I stayed 11-16 December 2018 and booked through Agoda
Pros:
1. Booking was easy
2. Price was fairly reasonable
3. Centrally located (close to restaurants and two shopping malls - Ayala Serin Mall and Fora Mall)
4. Tricycles are easily accessible on the road outside the front entrance
5. Staff was very friendly and accommodating
6. Air-conditioning worked well
Cons:
1. No wi-fi in the room. Wi-fi is only available in the lobby. This is very inconvenient.
2. Walls and floors were dingy/yellowish in the bedroom, bathroom, and shower room. Shower head looked like there was a bit of a calcium build-up from hard water (fortunately I had Clorox wipes with me, so I wiped everything down).
3. Bugs - late at night on my first evening I noticed very small bugs in the bathroom around the sink. They could have been mites of some kind. There were about four or five of them, so I killed them and was going to let it go. The next morning, while getting ready to head out, I saw more in the bathroom and on the kitchenette counter. I took all of my belongings off of the counters and put them all on the second bed in the room and left for the day. That evening (second night) I noticed more mites but then I also saw a roach on the up-light that runs behind the headboard. I was horrified! I took all of my belongings off of the counters and put them all on the second bed in the room and left for the day. That evening (second night) I noticed more mites but then I also saw a roach on the up-light that runs behind the headboard. I was horrified! I packed all of my belongings into my suitcase and called the front desk to be moved. No one was there because it was after 10pm, so I left voicemails with management and even went down to the lobby to email anybody that I could from the website. I wasn't able to reach anyone so I pulled the bed away from the headboard in the room and tried to sleep. When I turned the lights on at approximately 3am I saw two more roaches on the floor! I trapped one in a bottle and killed one and sat up the rest of the night. Apparently they had gotten my messages and emails because a hotel staff member came the next morning to move me to another room (which was just down the hall so I worried there would be the same problem, but I didn't see any bugs in that room).
4. More Bugs - wi-fi is only available in the lobby so you tend to spend a good amount of time there checking messages, confirming tour plans, and calling loved ones. This was made difficult because of the amount of flies in the lobby. I've never seen so many flies in one place in my whole life! I mean that literally. They were everywhere - dead on the floor, flying all over the place, perched on every chair cushion...just everywhere! Obviously they recognize that it's a problem because they even had a bug zapper in the corner behind one of the sofas and flies were constantly (about every 10 seconds) flying into it causing it to make that zapping sound. It was very unsettling. I'm not sure if the flies are a chronic problem or if something happened just before I got there to cause them, but they were there all five nights that I was there. I would suggest that they bring in an exterminator to fix that because it's a major turn-off for guests.
5. No one is available at the front desk or even on-call after 10pm.
6. Shower is separate from the toilet room which was strange.
7. There is a 1,000 peso fee that you must pay in cash upon check in. I think it's a cleaning/damage deposit in case you damage the room during your stay. It's refundable at check out so it's not a huge deal, but I just don't remember seeing that written in any of my booking documentation so it caught me off guard. Good thing I had cash on me that day.
Overall:
It's an okay condo/hotel building. If you're in a bind and need a place to stay, I guess it's fine; but I would not stay there again. The best thing about this place is their staff who are very friendly and helpful. I wish I had gotten their names to mention them specifically, but if any Destination Tagaytay Hotel management reads this review, I would like you to commend your employees that were working while I was there.
