This is a huge gilded Pagoda built in the 11th century. It is believed to enclose bone and tooth relics of a Buddha. In the South West corner is the shrine of the 37 Mahagiri Nats (Spirits).

If you been to Yangon and visited the Shwedagon Paya, look almost the same as this one, just much bigger, I was told, from this temple forward which started this style and many just follow, without doubt, it look beautiful from all side, most local folks come to pray and pay respect, best spot to watch the Sunset.

Pagoda looks very similar to all pagodas in Bahan. There was no water near it even though cover picture suggests so. As all the pagodas, it is surrounded by local sellers trying to persuade you to buy at least something. If you have been here for several days already, this can irritate you. Women who were selling goods at the entrance took our shoes and put small pins on our clothes as a souvenir. It was very clear that they have marked us among others so they can make us buy something from them on the way back.
No wonder that when we were back our shoes were taken away and these women would give us shoes back prior buying from them.
It was very annoying and felt like a huge scam even though we expected it. After a few days wondering around the temples on the scooter it was too much to experience again.

This Pagoda is a must see built in the 1100s from sandstone which was quarry about 20 kilometers away and according to the writings there was a human chain passing each brick by hand . Obviously now painted and coated in gold it looks spectacular.

The view is just breathtaking! The story of the 7 layers, and everyrhing behind Schwezigon Pagoda, is just amazing!
