It was my first visit to Botswana and my main purpose was safari. Yet, I am glad I did this Maun Tour, as I got to know more about the culture of Botswana and peoples everyday life in the small town of Maun. We visited various places in Maun. A basket weaver showed us the traditional way of basket weaving. We visited a local market, saw (street) art and had typical Botswana food for lunch. Besides we visited a car wash, which is kind of a meeting point for people living nearby. During the tour we had the chance to buy some nice souvenirs as well. When starting your safari from Maun, take some time for this tour before going to the bush. It's worth it!
Thanks very much for this review, we are thrilled and super happy that you have enjoyed The Maun Immersive Tour. We are looking forward to hosting you again.
The highlight of the Tour was definitely the interaction with the hosts. they were so knowledgable and enthusiastic about Botswana Traditions, Culture, Style and Food. The Tour as such was not only very informative but also covered a big variety of aspects and took us off the beaten tracks of 'Maun Town’
Thank you for the wonderful feedback Safari essence. It is always an honor to share our experiences with our guests! Much appreciated!
Maun Experience was a great surprise ! An authentic cultural tour with a great guide.
For a morning or afternoon free time in Maun it is the perfect option to discover the local life before to leave for a safari. A real immersion in the local community a different way to discover Botswana and not only wildlife.
During 3 hours we meet locals, their everyday life, the culture and traditions.
We saw schools, studients with uniform, different type of houses, village, city center, famous Tuck shops along the roads, car wash, hairdressers, barbers, driving school, taxi parking ...
We stopped and visited the market where we walked around and met local people : Prince an street artist, Mma Kushunya with very nice weaving baskets, Mma Tafa who create traditional skirts Khiba...
At the end of the tour, a delicious lunch is served with local food at Acacia Café.
I am a travel agent, and I will recommend this tour to my clients for a great local experience.
We are so happy to have had you join us on the tour and the experience you took away. Thank you so much for your recommendation.
Don't just fly in and out of the Okavango Delta on your expensive safari, do this little cultural tour in and around Maun with a local guide and really connect with local people and experience their way of life. It's authentic and real and will enrich your African experience.
Hi Carrie H,
Thank you for this beautiful review, the main aim behind this initiative is to get tourists to learn and connect more with local people, get the glimpse of our lesser known town.
What a fantastic and unique experience! As if I had never been to Maun in my life before - I actually visited a couple of times in the past - handpicked places visited that all used to seem so ' normal' but with the background and the personal encounters these special places and spaces all of a sudden became magic: meeting people and handcrafters at the local market, listen to the Bridge story at Sports Bar. Ref arts: spectacular (from the tough business lady at the weaver shop, to the street art at the local carwash, that practically combines with resident hairdressers, an EPIC space. Lunch at the end at the lovely museum site, at Akacia Restaurant, absolutely delicious, what a fine tasting of authentic local food, superb presentation, good vibes - all in all the guides are the keys and the team oozed enthusiasm and knowledge, infectious from the beginning to the end when you ask yourself why have you never moved to this place with this cool evolving scene in the middle of the beautiful wilderness of Botswana
Thank you so much for your review. We are super excited that you have enjoyed every bit of our Maun Immersive Tour. The aim is to showcase our small dusty town and Batswana culture to the world. Great to hear that you have enjoyed the traditional food as well, which is the key aspect in showcasing food culture in Botswana.
I really, really enjoyed this amazing cultural Tour in Maun. To see a town in Botswana, that usual only has people arriving and leaving at the airport, with no idea of what is happening - is such a good idea!
I enjoyed walking through the stalls/stands ( market) visiting artist’s on the road, meeting local people with great ideas (Mia Kushunya and her weaving project) and of course being able to eat the local food (= that was exceptional good!) at the Acacia Café. And always being accompanied by a very knowledgable and happy team! Kealeboga!
Thank you so much for this wonderful review, we are glad that you had an amazing Maun Immersive Tour with us. We hope to host you again! Re a leboga!
