“Fantastic beach”

Wells Next The Sea Beach

Owner description: At low water, Wells beach has huge open views and mile upon mile of sands and shallow channels to enjoy. When the tide comes in, the beach is transformed into a harbour, with the entrance channel suddenly busy with visiting yachts, fishing boats setting out for the day or returning with their catch, local small boats going out to fish as well as clouds of small sailing boats racing or cruising within the harbour. The golden sands are backed by colourful beach huts which have been the subject of many a painting and postcard. The popular Beach Cafe nearby is perfect for refreshments during your visit.

When you round the corner after walking along the harbour wall you are met with a huge expanse of beach along with dunes, forest, beach huts. Much more interesting than your average beach.

Parking is at the back of the cafe, which in itself is pretty reasonable, parking fees aren’t too extortionate and you can walk to the beach around the front of the cafe to get to the “dog free” area, though some people disregard the signage unfortunately. Or via the woods alongside the car park to the dog walking area.

It’s a fantastic beach that varies in height so be careful incoming tides can swing in behind you and you’ll end up wading back! I’ve never seen beach huts on stilts before, not sure if it’s for sry high tides, or preparedness for global warming sea rises! They do look great though all being painted different colours.

Taking advantage of a reprieve in the wet weather, we walked to the beach and back. Lovely walk along the harbour, past the lifeboat station and out to the beach. Great opportunity to see seals playing in the sea.

Lovely clean beach, lots of sand, lovely for young families and dog walkers, especially through woods, very impressed with amount of dog poo bins, (exceptional), altho' there are some people who don't recognise the bins! Not a bad car parking charge, and nice cafeteria nearbye, also clean toilets, well done Wells Council. I've visited and lived in Wells for years, very impressed to how it has become over the years.
