I must admit that after reading the reviews and booking this property I expected more.

The pluses - it is well located adjacent to the main street in town. The staff are friendly and obliging. No issues there - this was in fact their main feature.

The weaknesses - I thought that the property was a little dated (although I suspect it is reasonably newish). The decor is dark wood and to my eye that produces a rather dated look. The rooms whilst comfortable were more motel comfort than boutique hotel comfort. The breakfast - adequate - I have enjoyed better and seen worse.

Price value wise - just average- at best. Yes, it is in a remote and seasonal town in Argentina, but for the price paid I would have expected more.

The ultimate test - would I return - only if there wasn't something better.

This is a lovely hotel in a good location, in a rather non-descript town. Of course the attraction is the natural surrounding beauty, most notably the glacier Perito Moreno.
The hotel is attractively appointed in dark woods, and has a small attached garden area, which adds to its charm. My room overlooked the garden. The hotel is one block from the main avenue. About one block to the left on Avedida Liberadore is a small food store, about two blocks to the left, on the right hand side of the street there is a Pago Facile (money exchange). Turning to the right along the main avenue, a few blocks down, you will find a real supermarket on the left hand side of the street and a little further down on the right hand side is an Asian Sushi restaurant, where you can get a vegetarian/vegan meal. It is on the Plazoleta "Heroes de Malvinas".

The hotel is comfortably appointed. One of the best things was a spa tub, with relaxing massage jets, and grab bars for us older folks. There is a small fridge in the room stocked with sodas and water (for a price, of course). The breakfast was standard Argentina, cold cereal, fruit, toast, kefirs, meats, cheese etc. However, they were the only hotel that offered hot oatmeal. The front desk staff was a bit supercilious, I got the feeling here, as in other Argentinian hotels, that tourists are not well-liked, despite their monetary necessity. Overall, very nice and you wont be disappointed

Room Tip: I can only say I enjoyed my ground floor room overlooking the garden

The Patagonia Queen has everything a traveler could want--quiet well decorated rooms with comfortable beds, delicious variety in breakfast offerings, minutes from town, welcoming sitting areas. The hidden extra is the friendly and caring owner who shares his love of Patagonia with his guests. And lots of extras such as ice water, bar offerings, whirlpool tubs.

We stayed here for three days in March of 2018. It is a clean, comfortable hotel with free WiFi and an adequate breakfast. It is one block from Av. Liberadore that is the main tourist street of El Calafate. The cost if booked independently would be about $132 US or if paying Argentine taxes, about $162 US.

I think this is a great place to stay.

Room Tip: I did not see all of the rooms.
