We enjoyed very much our visit to El Calafate. Roble Sur is a quiet ,clean , small and very couzy hosteria. The heat is wonderful . Mariana: the owner is wonderful : she assisted us in everything ,also orginizing the tours. Also Nicolas at night was very helpful . We enjoyed the fresh orange juice. Was wonderful.

Based on ratings we went for this place. Unfortunately, the room had a stained dusty carpet. There were hairs in the bathroom and dust everywhere. This room was not properly cleaned in a long time.
The inner courtyard/ garden, was also a big mess. It does not take much to organize a bit. (And the stuff laying around was not from recent construction. Just mess)
The location is also out of town in a shabby neighborhood.
Not a great pick

the Hosteria is situated a little further (a 20 minutes walk) from the center making it a very quiet and relaxing place to stay.
the staff is very nice and helpful. they information provided by them upfront of our stay enabled us to exactly plan our stay in regards of the trekking tours, the lunch boxes (organized by the staff) and everything else.
the room was very clean and comfortable. We'd book a room at Hosteria Roblesur anytime again!

When we first arrived here our hopes weren't high as we were probably given the least desirable room (first one off the lobby) and had just come from a luxury "yurt camp". But the people who work here were so lovely to us that the place itself seemed less important. It was clean and everything worked so it met our needs. I've read about wi-fi issues but they must have been resolved before our visit as I'm a heavy user and didn't experience and difficulties. One night I had an upset stomach and the manager even made me a bowl of white rice which was the only thing I wanted! My friend and I both got confused on the instructions walking to town and tended to take local, inexpensive cabs which the hotel is happy to call for you. It would have been nice to have in-room temperature control as we had to leave a ground floor window open to cool the room but felt perfectly safe doing so. I'm fairly sure there were much nicer rooms - perhaps upstairs. But the helpfulness of the staff and their consistent desire to help our stay in El Calafate go well went beyond and limitations of the property.

Room Tip: Ask to be upstairs

Robel Sur is located on the edge of El Calafate in a new development which has unfinished houses, empty sites and unpaved roads. Across from the hotel a new house is in course of construction. It is about a 15 minute walk into town but the walk back was steep in places although neither was a problem for us. Dogs were frequently barking during the night but they never bother us as we walked into town. Cheap taxis are available and recommended if returning after dark as it is quite a lonely walk back and some of the journey is on unpaved roads and rough ground.

We were on the ground floor and there was no worthwhile view. The bedroom was very good, clean, modern, comfortable, bright and nicely decorated. The bathroom had all the amenities you could wish but was a little small yet adequate.
The Wi-Fi in the bedroom wasn’t stable and there was no TV or fridge. The bedroom had underfloor heating and there were no heating controls in the bedroom. The heat in the bedroom was excessively hot which caused us a huge amount of discomfort, both day and night. We had to leave the window fully open on both nights we stayed as we estimated the heat in the bedroom to be in excess of 30 c. This meant that we had extreme heat in the bedroom with very cold air coming in through the window. We both felt unwell for several following our stay and we believe it was caused by this. We mentioned it to the owner after the first day and he told me that the heating had been reduced. We found no difference. This excessive heat was a most unpleasant experience and took away significantly from our stay. Staff were all very friendly, especially the young man who looked after us at breakfast.
Breakfast was very basic by international standards with limited food choices. It was orange juice, cereal, bread, tea or coffee and fresh fruit in a basket. We requested a transfer to the airport. The only option offered was a taxi which cost ARS 250.00 (UK £26.00) for a 20 minute journey of 12 miles. The car didn’t look as if it was a registered taxi and we wondered if it was a private hotel service. Our view of Roble Sur has been very significantly impacted by the oppressive heat in our bedroom and we would have given it a better rating but for this. However, given our overall experience we would not return.
