Good experience overall. Wine better than food but view made the experience great. Not sure if I will plan a revisit compared to the other fine dining spots in the area.

We had a nice lunch, I had kingklip and my partner had ostrich steak but the portions were very small, more like a starter size than a main size. Nonetheless, the food was good and the service friendly.
The lady who did our wine tasting before hand was so knowledgeable and friendly.

We discovered Glen Carlou because our guest house served their wines and we wanted to check out the winery. While visiting we thought the lunch menu looked good, so we came back the next day before our drive to the Capetown airport. Even thought the restaurant didn't open until noon, they seated us at 11:30am, took our order early and brought it by 11:50! We were so impressed--both with the food and the service. We had ostrich filet (excellent) along with two salads that were much larger than we expected. The view is gorgeous and you probably need to make a reservation since there aren't a lot of tables. Someday when we return to SA, Glen Carlou will be on our "must stop" list.

Our experience exceeded the positive reviews. A superb leisurely lunch with friendly service and great views perfectly rounded off an active morning sightseeing. The pork belly and kingklip fish main dishes were outstanding as were the starters and desserts. A nice touch was chefs nibbles between course. We also enjoyed their sauvignon blanc wine.

Arrived a little early to try a wine tasting before lunch and hopefully select a wine to enjoy with lunch. Invited by staff to sit in the soft eating area for the tasting but then told that we could not sit there as it was reserved so returned to bar area. We were given wine tasting menu. The staff member could not have been more disinterested as she read through the tasting options/rules - breaking eye contact and scanning the restaurant
at regular intervals. We selected the wine we would like to taste - we are long term fans of Glen Carlou wines and drink them regularly in the UK as well as on many trips to SA. The white wines we tasted were far too cold - the flavours were literally frozen. We asked if we could try the wines a little less cool and we were told that wasn't possible. Whenever my husband tried to engage staff in a conversation about the wine - to ask questions or give feedback on the wine - their eyes glazed over and they did not engage in conversation. We moved on to the reds but again they were too cold to appreciate properly. Disappointed, we asked to be shown to our table. We were shown to an inside table, deep inside the restaurant, despite booking an outside table several days before online. When we queried our table, we were told very loudly - in fact the whole restaurant must have heard - that we had not booked an outside table. I double checked when we returned home, we had. To add insult to injury another couple arrived long after we had and they were shown an inside table by the window becaue it was their honeymoon. It was also our honeymoon but nobody had engaged in conversation long enough with us to discover that. We sat down and had a look at the menu. Within the space of 5 minutes we were asked 3 times by the same staff member if we would like wine for the table. Each time we asked if we could have some time to decide what we would like to eat before ordering the wine but they returned soon after. I cannot comment on the food as we were so fed up that we left before ordering. We offered to pay for our wine tasting but one member of staff had the good grace to waive the fee. Bitterly disappointed - our trips here on previous holidays had always been memorable - but now one feels just like another number to be processed. On the plus side, we popped into Cosecha just down the road on the way home and had a wonderful meal with wonderful, friendly service. Recommend.
