The iconic mountain is definitely a must see when in Cape Town.

I have been up the cable car a few times, the views from the top are out of this world.
Try go on a clear day, as sometimes a layer of clouds cover the top of the mountain, and you will not be able to see the view.
If you are a hiker, try hiking up. There are numerous paths, but the most straightforward path is Platteklip Gorge which is straight up the face of the mountain. You should be able to hike up within 2 - 3 hours (Leisure pace), and take the cable car down. Not for the faint hearted :)

Group tours have their perks - such as local guide getting you to Table Mountain first thing in the morning to ensure the group can stand in line as little as possible and quickly head up the aerial cableway. Note to fellow travellers - don't panic for position - the cableway rotates 360 degrees so there is no such thing as a bad view. Our guide Chris provided us with a very informative tour on one of the shorter trails - where we were provided with magnificent views, great vantage points for photography and spotting the ubiquitous Rock Hyrax, locally known as the Dassie. Table Mountain became our way of telling where were were in the city and surrounding area. Wish we had time to do a sunrise or sunset hike.

Booked ahead to avoid queues and we were very lucky with the weather which was superb. The cable car rotates so that everyone gets a great view as you progress up to the top station. Easy access and well worth doing.

First of all, we were told the cableway is only open for 40% of time due to poor weather conditions. Secondly there can be long queues to get both up and down when it is open, particularly 1st thing in the morning.
We got the hop-on bus in the city centre on a glorious day and arrived at the lower cableway station at 11.30am. The queue was about 20 mins from start to getting onto the red car when we were whisked to the top. An amazing experience in the car as we got great views all around. When we arrived at the top we went straight upstairs to the wi-fi cafe which was very quiet and the food and drink was excellent and a good price.
We were SO lucky as the weather at the top was superb, very sunny and very light winds so we set off for the walk around the top. It was quite an easy walk and there were superb views in all directions. Fortunately there were not too many people around so we enjoyed all the viewpoints. We saw some cloud moving in on the next mountain so decided to make our way down. Once again there was only a 10 minute wait and we enjoyed the trip down - then back on the bus to continue our tour around.
If you can, you must go up Table Mountain - it is fabulous

i swear i could see spain from the top of the mountain (kidding) but you can literally see all of capetown, robben island, the stadium, lions head. the cableway tilts 360 degrees as it goes up giving you more viewing pleasure. lots of little animals and flowers and a restaurant to eat and drink thats a little overpriced though!
