The iconic mountain is definitely a must see when in Cape Town.
I have been up the cable car a few times, the views from the top are out of this world.
Try go on a clear day, as sometimes a layer of clouds cover the top of the mountain, and you will not be able to see the view.
If you are a hiker, try hiking up. There are numerous paths, but the most straightforward path is Platteklip Gorge which is straight up the face of the mountain. You should be able to hike up within 2 - 3 hours (Leisure pace), and take the cable car down. Not for the faint hearted :)
