Great scenic drive but slow speed limit and few places to stop mar the experience.
You have to pay to get into the reserve area in the first place and then if you want to complete the drive you pay again to drive the rest. Bit of a con really. But its not a lot of money so hey ho.

We drove the short road over Chapman's Peak on the way back to Cape Town from Cape Point. We had timed it to be able to stop and watch the sun set. Fortunately we were a bit early, since there are very few parking spots. It's a pretty drive, great ocean viewing, and interesting "tunnel" construction to protect from landslides.
The sunset honestly was nothing spectacular, mostly because there wasn't a cloud in the sky, so nothing to reflect the colors. It was nice though, to watch a couple of boats returning to Hout Bay after a day of fishing, and to see the lights of the city coming on and reflecting on the water.

This route is well maintained and safe to drive on. It has been converted to a toll road, but this is a small fee to pay for the beautiful views. There is plenty of spots to stop on the drive. And great photo opportunities. A MUST do if you are visiting The Cape.

Hire a car and do it!

If you do nothing else then you will still have had one of the best drives of your life and seen some of the most picturesque coastlines in the world.

Plenty of little stop offs to take pictures and keep on driving and you will come across great parts of Cape Town to stop off for lovely food and drink.
