Great golf course in splendid condition.
All the spring work and treatment paying off. Greens have a beautiful surface. Always a great test of your game. Summer is coming.

A really nice course and club. The course was well maintained, with a parkland style and a few challenging holes. The pro shop and caddies were friendly, although the course marshal was a bit over the top. Halfway house was efficient for a quick bite to eat, and the bar at the 19th was comfortable and friendly.

The home of that most awful of golfers, the gambling member with fake handicap, Glendower is a gem among the country's courses and has hosted many Sunshine Tour events. A classic parkland course it is festooned with superb design features - but is screwed up royally by the close proximity to the freeway.

For much of your round you'll have that awful traffic drone - which is not as bad as Killarney, which has just about every hole within earshot of Africa's busiest freeway.

Cost? As a visitor, you will be eaten alive. It's really, really expensive. Halfway house is great, but again, costly. Drinks? Wanna become t-total?

So if you're a visitor to Johannesburg and you love your golf, rather go just out of the city to Kyalami, which Dale Hayes calls golf's best kept secret: it is a fantastic parkland course, where the loudest noise you'll hear is the shriek of a golfer missing a tap-in putt, or the clop of horses on the bridle path that surrounds much of the course.

And by the way the club golfer members - with one or two notables - tend to be honest, unlike Glendower, where a 16-handicap golfer will unashamedly shoot 72 and not even have the decency to blush.

To all those South African golfers that are tempted to spend their hard earned rand on overseas golf tours - try Glendower first. For an equivalent experience overseas the cost will be around $300.00 = R 5'000.00. For that kind of money you will get to play 10 rounds of golf at one of the premier courses in SA and the home of the SA Open.
