Great place, close to the bus station, right on the beach. Hear the ocean waves crashing in. what a fine serenade to go to sleep with each evening. I really enjoyed my stay here! This place isn't fancy, just adequate. I think the real draw is the beach.

Great views, cute little bungalows and good staff (helpful and friendly). Should be downgraded to one star during peak season - the kitchen is too small for the amount of guessed and after queuing to cook for thirty minutes, we gave up and went to bed without supper. The street outside was mayhem with crazy, loud drunk people and we worried our car would get broken into as the area isn’t a safe one (wouldn’t walk anywhere passed 5pm).

You can't beach Sugarshack's location or prices. Those two alone make it worth it for most budget travelers. The toilets and showers were very nice and clean. However, the communal kitchen was absolutely filthy, and the staff seemed to spend most of their time in the kitchen/lounge watching TV, rather than helping people or cleaning the kitchen up.

Veryvery cheap, free pool table, nice staff, dircetly next to the beach.
Unfortunately the beach itself is very littered and East London itself is no real beauty.
But if you decide to go there, you get a good budget hostel for your money

The hostel is perfectly located on the beach but is surrounded it by a dodgy area. You are warned upon arrival to only go right when you leave the hostel ad not left. This was proved by the girl who was mugged on the beach (to the left) late at night. This isn't the hostels fault and I wouldn't want to put anyone off but it is worth knowing!

The nearby beach which you can get to for 50 rand is perfect for swimming and surfing and is a lot safer! Would recommend Nahoon beach and Dean's Surf School!
