A nice little golf course. 18 holes with a great price. The views were great. Nice club house. Great service.
I’ve played this course many times, but lately they have been overbooking. Most recently, I played a 5 hour round. From the 1st tee, we waited on EVERY hole. Not a ranger in sight all day, and when I mentioned it to the clubhouse after the round (at 7pm) they didn’t really seem to care. They said how many players they booked for the day as an excuse. Well, if it’s juts a matter of cramming as many people out there as possible with no regard for quality (pace of play), then that’s just not good business. They may get a lot of 1st timers, but it’ll hurt return visits. It’s unfortunate because it is a decent course and close to home. I actually wouldn’t have written this review if they showed any sign that cared when it was brought up to them. I’ll probably play it again in the summer when it’s dead out there, but definitely not during season.
I don't know why anyone visiting the area would spend the time to play this course. There is nothing terrible about this course it is just blah. There are no elevation changes, the course layout is only ok as is the maintenance, the pace of play was nearly 5 hours and was overpriced for the experience. The weather was great the players we were paired with were fun and the staff was good. Having visited the valley for several decades and having played nearly 50 courses this one is not worth spending your time playing.
After golfing here we stopped in to the Copper Bar for beverages. We were greeted by the Romanian bartender Sandra who has personality plus. She took our varied drink orders with a deserved amount of ribbing. She kept it going even after she was back behind the bar mixing and pouring. After a few sips we decided to order some apps. Out came tater tot nachos and the cheese curds. Both were delicious and had plenty of local flavor to them. This was a great way to cap off a great afternoon of golf and sun. Sandra thanked us and shooed us out the door. I would certainly consider going back to Copper even if we were not golfing at DVR.
This was our first time playing Dove Valley Ranch. Upon arriving, two friendly young guys politely removed our bags from the car and got them situated on the cart while we drove to the parking area. Entering the club house, the proshop sits directly ahead with the snack bar located on the left along with the restrooms. The club, while small, was compact and clean. The guy at the desk was very helpful and friendly giving us all the information that we would need to get us going. Range balls cost a nominal $2 for about 30 balls. After leaving the clubhouse, the guys where we left our bags directed us to the range and the putting green. The putting green and chipping area were in fairly good shape , but the driving range left a bit to be desired. Even if it is winter, the grass in the hitting areas was thin to non-existent. After warming up, we headed back to the snack bar to get water and to start our round. The starter got us paired up with a nice couple and we were off. The front nine is fairly straight forward and offers some interesting challenges, but nothing out of the ordinary. A couple of the holes are located right next to busy streets so that was kind of distracting. We moved along at a good pace finishing the front in under 2 hours. After a quick bathroom break at the turn, we headed off to the back nine. The back nine starts off with a straight away par 4, but then gets a bit weird. There are a number of holes that have split fairways, blind shots or washes that have to be traversed. You need to pay strick attention to the GPS maps on the cart or you will choose the wrong club or hit the wrong shot. The greens were cut very short and gave a ball little chance of stopping if on a downhill portion of the green. Putting was definitely a challenge. If you miss a green with your approach shot, chances are good it will roll off into the bushes forcing you to drop. We ended up finishing the round in about 4 hours. It would have been faster, but the unusual layout of the course caused some delays. We did have fun because we were playing golf and the weather was nice.
This is a club where as a daily fee player you are treated like a member. Nice people, nice place!
Great layout. Tough, challenging from any of the tee boxes. Course is in excellent shape.
Good value and if you plan to play a few rounds get a DVR card. It is worth it.
