I enjoyed walking part way out on the whale's tail. It was gorgeous looking all around, even to the beach. My suggestions would be to be sure to know the time of low tide, then allow ample time for entry and walking to the actual whale's tail. I did not allow enough time and found the tide coming in before I reached the end. Yes, I will be going back to see it all again. The down side was knowing where to park our car before going into the park as there is a charge for parking. Carpooling recommended. Anyway, I enjoyed it and now two of us are going to go there.

We came here very late one day and were allowed in for free as we indicated we were only going to watch the sunset. The person at the booth told us we had 20 minutes. The sunset was beautiful and there was nothing in the water or on the beach to block your view which was lovely. We walked out to the whales tail the following morning. Go early because it gets hot - but make sure to check what the tide schedule is because you can only walk out the whole way during low tide.

If you take the main entrance, through the village of BAHIA, then you get the picture of what Costa Rica is: Pay for parking, pay for the entrance with no explanation of what to see, what to do. PAY, Pay, Pay
So anyways, fed up with that we decided to park further down the beach side...and for free. Then we walk up Playa Uvita with a stunning empty wild beach that extend for miles, up to the Whale tail shaped peninsula.
Heard and read before that some tourist got robbed while walking on this beach, but nothing happened for us. fortunately and looks like the authorities have taken some actions. We saw the Police on Quads and motorbikes riding along the beach

Guard at the entrance of the park must have had a rough journey, barely speaking english , only to insist on the price to pay (USD 8)
it is not about paying, it is also about having a reason to pay.
Costa Rica should charge tourist once for the parks entrance, What I found is that ANYTHING or ANYWHERE you wanna go...YOU HAVE to PAY and that s pityful.
Would I ever give another try? probably not until they decide to stop gauging tourists

Here is the deal. This pretty unique beach has the shape of a whale tail at low tide. Now, once you are on the beach it is pretty underwhelming as the perspective is only remarkable from above (take one of the side roads up the mountain from the main road to find a good lookout). This said, it is pretty cool to walk on a beach where you have the ocean on both sides and it make for fun picture opportunities. Go early to avoid the crowds, take shoes as the rocks (the fin) are pretty rough and buy coconut ice cream from the lady’s shack at the entrance (DELICIOUS!). Overall a fun walk...
