We had 2 days diving in Las Catalina and and had a great experience from start to finish. Phil and his team provide excellent customer service, and the fact they focus on running small dive groups, makes sure you get a personal service throughout your time with them.
The Dive Masters we had, Sabine, Dali and Pablo took the time to make sure everyone was properly kitted out and the kit was clearly well maintained. As a fairly experienced Advanced diver I often find that whilst BCDs, Regs etc are in good nick wetsuits can be a little skanky, but all of the ones Phil supplies are of top quality. I’m defintnley glad i took their advice too and used a long suit rather than my usual shorty, as there are some pretty cold currrents at times. And there always seemed to be something cool to look at when you’re in them!
We dived 4 difference sites, with Elephant being our favourite ( possibly because we could also hear the whales singing) but each one provided ia different type of dive and the Dive Masters gave a good pre-dive brief on what to look for. Particular kudos here to Dali and his excellent seahorse tracking skills.
The dive’s were a real pleasure and we got everything for the useful exciting big stuff like sharks, rays, eeels etc but also a lot of interesting micro and more hidden sea life such as seahorses, octopuses, lobster etc. On our second day although visibility was reduced Pablo picked us two sites with a lot of rocky outcrops and canyons that were full of micro stuff. However on boats days we got sight of and close to some big shoals too including rainbow, tuna and wrasse. So if you’re concerned about visibility don’t be, as there is a lot down there. The Dive Masters were also very strong on pre-dive instructions for visibility and in keeping an eye on the group once we were down. I know some people like to manage their own dive but Phil’s team know the sites so you’ll get more out of the dive following their lead.
Other positives include a thanks to the boat captains who also took time out to do a bit of whale spotting and following the crazy devil rays with their acrobatic air shows.
The pineapple provided was also prbbalay the best ever, which is saying something for Costa Rica. I don’t even normally like it but it was spot on !
Last but most definitely not least, a big thanks to Phil for taxiing us to and from the sites. Not only was Phil good company he also provided an excellent soundtrack of 90s and 00’s rock!
All in all SDCR have been one of the best companies we’ve dived with around the world. Professional, knowledgeable and very welcoming. I definitely recommend them as I’m sure Phil and his team will do everything in their power to give you a great diving experience.

Thank JoelMajor
