We just wrapped up 3 nights at Margaritaville. We were a little nervous about our booking after we started reading reviews. However, we were thrilled with our stay and absolutely recommend this hotel, it is more like 4.5 out of 5.

Pros: Clean, safe hotel, friendly staff, good food and drinks. Beautiful views, ocean just steps away. Everything was in close proximity which was very convenient, we were on the second floor but just a few steps away from pretty much everything. The pool water is warm. Kids enjoyed the family center for ping pong and pool. We signed up for the family theatre and watched a movie one day (popcorn and soda included). All-inclusive was great, we had no issues. Kids loved the virgin drink options. There are 4 options for food, all were very good. You MUST visit Capriccio’s Pizza Bistro and Cafe (must make reservations). Jamie and Fiona are the BEST! Pool was great. We booked an ATV tour through the hotel and it was a great tour. The locals offer some goods and services just outside the hotel and even cheap beachside massages! The hotel never felt crowded and wasn’t a party scene. Very family friendly.

Cons: There is no hot tub, which was kinda bummer but didn’t really bother our stay. The schedule for the restaurants and poolside bar does not match what they give you at the front desk. The poolside bar closes at 6:00 (according to the info given at front desk but is more like 5:30), but you can go to the other bar and order drinks until midnight. The activities schedule wasn’t really followed and not really engaging for the kids. We were at the hotel during high tide so it was tough to enjoy the beach and ocean. There are locals and tour groups that will approach you as you pass over the small dirt road between the resort and ocean, it wasn’t too bad though and not a safety issue.

We would go back again!

Our week In Costa Rica was spent at this lovely hotel. For us, as a family of 3 with an 8 year old, it was the perfect choice. The hotel is laid back with a lovely vibe. The staff are all so nice. We took the all inclusive option, as that was the option we were offered. We booked with Tui, as they were the only company offering the weekly direct flight from Gatwick. The flight was ok. A heads up on this if you are travelling from the UK is that it’s pretty much an 11 hour journey, and although a meal is served, there are very few additional snacks available to buy! The best advice here is to take food on the flight which can be purchased from the airport prior to boarding.
The food at the hotel was very good, with lunch and dinner being ordered and cooked freshly from the menu. Thankfully it wasn’t the buffet style that would be expected in the generic set up of an all inclusive resort. The Italian restaurant in the hotel really is superb as an alternative.

The rooms were very comfortable and clean.
Outside the front of the hotel, there is a shopping plaza with a few places to eat, along with a small supermarket and a couple of shops etc. Golf buggy’s can be rented also outside the hotel at a cost of $55 per day. These are very useful for nipping around locally. There are a couple of local options being Playa Brasilito, and Playa Potrero which are an approximately 6km from the hotel, and an easy option with the golf buggy for an authentic Costa Rican bite to eat, and visit to a different beach. Tamarindo is a much bigger town than both of these, and is 40mjns by taxi.
Our week here consisted of a few excursions, which we booked upon arrival in the hotel lobby.
We took the full day tour to Diamente Park, which was excellent. Zip lines, kayaking in the sea, paddle boarding, animal sanctuary, all with lunch included
We also took the ATV tour to Congo Trail.
We spent an amazing week, with a mix of chilling by the pool and on the hotel beach, with excitement and adventure
This is a superb hotel, and we loved our week here!

We (family of 5) booked the Margaritaville Beach Resort as we didn't really want to spend 2 weeks in a huge sprawling hotel with thousands of other guests. We weren't dissapointed as this hotel is reasonably small and even when at full capacity you were able to find areas that were quiet if you wished.
There were issued initially with the two rooms booked -Room 1214 was a large double room (very large bed) and balcony for myself and my wife whereas room 1215 overlooking the pool had 2x single beds and was smaller which was an issue as our sons aged 17, 19 & 22 didn't have a bed of their own despite requests beforehand, Anyway the reception eventually managed to put in an extra temporary bed for the 2 weeks we stayed (not ideal but we dint spend a huge amount of time in our rooms anyway). Tip is that rooms at the back end of the hotel (odd numbers) are larger than the ones overlooking the pool.
The pool was spacious enough that even at full capacity there was plenty of room for everyone. The games room was great with 2x billiard tables, 2x table tennis tables and a cinema room. Gym was great too and the boys made use of this most days.
Location was amazing with the beach literally on the doorstep of the hotel where we were able to see the fantastic sunsets every evening.
Staff were fantastic throughout and very friendly with a special mention to Eduardo & Helaberth at the Banana Wind and Jimmy, Fiona, Julie & Tutti at Capriccios and not forgetting Geddy with his tireless work in getting people involved in daily activities.
Food: - Food was great too but as we were staying for 2 weeks All Inclusive it became a little repetitive which is expected really. The breakfasts were good and remember the you can order off the menu if you like (they don't offer you the menu for breakfast but you can scan the QR code and order of it nevertheless). Capriccios the Italian was excellent with fantastic past and pizzas - You can order take outs if you wish and eat at the beach or five o clock somewhere bar for sunset.
If you wanted to break things up a little then there was Amigos 5 mins walk away which was lovely and cheap along with Coco Locos which is a must visit as the food there was out of this world and plentiful. There is also a supermarket next door to Amigos which allows you to purchase any supplies at a good price too.
Plenty of sun loungers (some were broken or damaged!) for everyone so no need to put your towel on them at a silly time in the morning.
There are tip boxes everywhere but not compulsory. In fact even though we tipped every time we ate you don't end up getting better or preferential treatment which is nice.
The cleaning staff were also fab and did an excellent job every day- Thank you!
We also booked the half day cruise with the hotel on their fantastic boat 'Endeavour'. This was a fantastic trip as we were the only people on the boat. We were looked after fantastically by Jessica and Captain Danny where nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of food & drink too!!
Weather (June/July) was ok, rained at some point every day (mostly afternoon/evenings) but what do you expect ar the start of the rainy season. Didn't hamper the holiday whatsoever and still needed to cool off in the pool.
All in all a fantastic family holiday to a beautiful country with beautiful people.

Room tip: Room 1214 (facing the back of the hotel) is large with a super king sized bed. Room 1215 (facing the pool) is smaller with two single beds

We had big expectations of the hotel, after visiting Margaritaville in Myrtle Beach and Gatlinburg. It is not like those destinations at all the menu does not have any of the items like in the United States. The food was only ok, not good or great. The bars had a handful of drinks like the US locations. The beach was amazing and the pool was nice. We did have a problem in our room with fleas and only stayed one night. We told management when we decided to check out and they said they would go and inspect and then sent us an email later saying they did not find anything. VERY DISAPPOINTING!

We had a great time visiting Costa Rica for our vacation & the hotel was exceptional all around. From the service, to the food, to the pool & the proximity to the beach was perfect too. Even the massage girls directly on the beach are great & for the price they charge you can’t go wrong. We paid $40 for a 60 min massage & it was so worth it. There’s really nothing negative to say about our 6 day stay here. Make sure to also visit Coco Loco Bar which is 10 min walk down the road & if you are going to do any excursions, Minor Gonzalez is your go-to guy. Don’t waste your time with anyone else that’s pushing you to go with them. Minor came recommended to us & he also has plenty of positive reviews on TripAdvisor to see for yourself. He is extremely knowledgeable of all Costa Rica has to offer & You are truly in good hands with Minor & his associates. We did the rainforest tour that had plenty of sloths along the way to see as well as many other exotic species & we then proceeded to a 2 mile hike thru the jungle to come to the Huge waterfall in Tenorio Volcano National Park that spilled out into this majestic Blue Lagoon. It was surely a sight to see! Lastly we dipped into the turquoise mineral waters of the Celeste River & it was so refreshing to end that excursion with this. Minor can be contacted by email at Majortourscr@gmail.com or thru Whatsapp @506-6091-1417. He can also be found directly on the beach behind the resort. We are already talking about a return trip to Costa Rica next year
