After some nice e-mail exchanges beforehand my wife and me decided to book this hotel as start of our 3rd vacation in Costa Rica.
However, our Airbus A 340 could not land as scheduled in San José cause a heavy thunderstorm and lots of rain made it impossible to
bring us down on time and our pilot told us we will first fly to Panama City and fill up the Kerosin tanks.
That’s the reason that we spent about 24 hrs from
leaving our home in Germany until we arrived in a city hotel in San José.
The next day we made the transfer to the Casa Luna Hotel, which has very kind personell at the reception desk, and when having breakfest you can
see the Arenal Volcano from one or two tables.
When we were there at the beginning of September
the weather changed within minutes, I.e. sometimes you will have a good view on the volcano and a few minutes later it was covered by clouds or fog.
The breakfest included coffee or tea, some sorts of fruits, and you can choose between 6-8 different
linds of breakfest. The menu card showed the same meals every day at least in the 5 days we were there.
The hotel grounds are very well maintained by several gardeners and nearly every evening you hear frogs calling e.g.Leptodactylus savagei and we heard and saw wild turkeys calling and climbing up in a tree very close to our room. Highlights for us !
On the hotel grounds you can relax in a bigger swimming pool and 3 smaller whirl pools.
Besides the beautiful tropical garden plants you can go hiking on a jungle like trail that also
belongs to the hotel and this was really amazing !
You must wear good trekking shoes, when it’s rainy season a rain poncho and you should have a good constitution because steps have to be passed up and down.
We asked at the reception if we could borrow an
umbrella but they gave us only one per room, so if you travel as a couple or with even more people, each of them should have an umbrella !
And I suggest that you better have 5 fully loaded batteries for your digital camera with you, because
we couldn’t reload our batteries for our camera, neither in our room nor at the reception desk !
This was a major desaster, because you are far away from a g photo shop where you may find a solution to this problem. So we had to make the remaking pictures with our cell phones.
Loading up the cell phones in the room was possible, but slowly.
We only had breakfest here and late afternoon we went by feet to a restaurant nearby where you can order delicious meals incl. different kind of
burgers at very reasonable prices !
Beforehand we booked a daytour called ‚unique Cano Negro‘ and also on another day a hike on the Mistic Arenal Hanging bridges‘ in the afternoon and a hike on Arenal 1968 before lunch.
We could book this last daytour directly at the
reception desk and for us it was most important to see the Arenal on a sunny day, free from clouds and fog.
In case you need some more information, I‘m ready to assist you ! Love and peace to all of you !
