Stayed in Joecons in the month of March 2018 with my family. Was slightly disappointing when we arrived as it took almost an hour for the resort to allot a room for us ....but then overall a pleasant stay , courteous staff at reception ( Nikita,Joffy & Inhas) ..Good food at Garden Restaurant , and very helpful staff ( Nelvin,Bonny to name a few) , Captain - Ashok and Restaurant Managers- Sanjay & Hemant .. However Room Service food needs improvement ..especially authentic Goan prawns curry...

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor with an opening to the garden are good especially for families

Evening visit to hotel:

Pros

Friendly waiters
Nice spacious restaurant
Clean toilets
Great kids meals
(Lovely chicken nuggets and smiley faces for fussy children)
Nice deserts

Cons

Waiter rolled his eyes when we ordered a drink and desert at 10.30

The pork was all fat with tiny amount of meat

One of the staff came over and decided to tell me that they remove the menus whilst people are eating because they are riddled with bacteria from people who don't wash their hands (not what you wanna hear when you're trying to enjoy a meal....maybe get plastic ones and clean them with dettol)

Went to hotel reception at 11pm and asked them to ring a taxi, but they refused...even though we were stood there with a 6 and 9 year old. They only started making calls when we kicked up a fuss. Luckily a tuctuc arrived dropping someone at the hotel and we jumped in. We are tourists after all....we didn't know that taxis are hard to get at 11pm....but...for a hotel to refuse trying to get a taxi for you over the phone when you've made the effort to visit their hotel and spend money in their restaurant....also, whilst stood there with 2 young children....it's absolutely shocking???!!!!

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks in February and had a lovely time. Our room was clean and a pleasant place to be, although the ceiling fan was very noisy. The hotel staff were all very polite and helpful. The hotel itself is nice the only criticism we would have is that the swimming pool in the grassed area only had 10 sun loungers and several of these were broken or in a poor state of repair. The pool by the main bar area is properly equipped but belong a smaller was sometimes a little to busy for our tastes. The food and drink in the hotel, we were only bed and breakfast, was fine and not massively overpriced compared to the local eating places. It was about a 15 minute stroll to the beach, although a tut tut or taxi was always around if you felt a little tired. All in all, a nice hotel.

Being dropped in the hours of darkness at Joecons the thought goes through your mind "where on earth are we stuck in the middle of nowhere" but after going out for a walk you soon realise that there are a few restaurants, shops etc on the road down to beach.
I read a few reports before we went to Joecons about the length of walk to the beach, with a dodgy knee it takes around 10 minuites, 30 if your hassled into a few shops on the way.
Breakfast is one of the best we have encountered in India but nothing special with the usual egg chef etc Sanjay and the staff are very good.
The food in the restaurant is reasonable to English prices but 3 to 4 times as expensive as going to a restaurant down the road, we only ate there on the Saturday night of arriving with not knowing where anything was.
The bar is also priced the same, the down side is that it closes at 10.30 with no warning, once again had a drink there on the day arrival and never again.
The Internet is a real bone of contention, you can go to the beach and get free internet all day long but at Joecons you only get 2 hours with the use of a voucher from the reception, one of the staff did say that Thompsons guests should only have 1 voucher on arrival but they will give you one at any time in our experience, this only works in the reception area, it took us a few days to find out that in the bar/restaurant area there is free wifi available if you are told about it, once again this only works in that area.
Our room was great and very spacious as we were allocated a Villa, but I heard quite a few English guests from both Thompsons and Thomas Cook complaining about what they were allocated compared to what was advertised in the brochure, a bit of luck needed on this one and complain if you not so lucky, one English couple were given a room that the lock didn't work on the door, they were told to leave there stuff In the room and go out as it would be safe till they fixed it in the morning !!!
That brings me onto the reason I used the title "eventful"
Firstly we were delayed by two days, nothing to do with Joecons obviously but a dispute we still have with Thompsons but started us off on the wrong foot.
Secondly and more importantly the reason i write this review is that we had £320 stolen out of our safe in the room...yes "our safe" considering they had told the guests above to leave their room open !!!!
Very briefly the digital safe in our room failed to open using the code to lock it on two occasions, the Monday and the Thursday, two ways for the code not to work is firstly human error (which I can assure you didn't happen) and secondly by using the master key, which had to be used on the two occasion it wouldn't open.
It wasn't till 3 days later (Sunday) that we realised that we had the money missing out of the safe, if we had kept our cash in one big pile then we may not have ever noticed till we returned home as this was only the third £100 we had taken out.
After making a complaint to the hotel via the rep we were told they would look at the CCTV footage, the room was covered by two cameras, they would not let us or the rep look at the footage and told that only the General Manager could view it, the next day they said the images were too grainy and could not see anything, they said their IT people would see if they could improve it, they very next day the footage was good enough to view and no one who shouldn't have had entered our room....
....what a load of Bo****ks, lying toe rags covering there own by lying about the footage, two days later I was told that the police had been to the hotel and after asking the rep to find out why they said it was because if a noise issue, the hotel is in the middle of nowhere so another blatant lie and cover up, I personally think they did view someone and kept the outcome in house rather than admit it to us.
Sorry for the long winded dialog but it had to be done to include everything to tell the facts.
Overall a great hotel if your lucky with your room allocation but if you go there after reading this keep an daily eye on your safe if you have problems with it, a lesson learned by us.....
If you do go, take a walk up to the end of the long road outside the hotel gates and take a right at the top away from Benaulim, visit Vincents Restaurant on your right hand side when you get to the next junction, very good food and value for money.
16/17 mins walk or get a taxi for about 200 rupees.

Room Tip: Ask for a villa room if you can !!!
