So many memories here, frequented the small stone-walled chapel while growing up. The grounds are well kept. The monastery is picturesque, clean, restored. the surrounds are peaceful. The shroud of Turin had 2 copies made for experimenting, and when they were not needed, one replica found its way to Sri Lanka.
Just a beautiful place, well worth visiting.

This is situated 3 km away from the Kandy City along the Thalathuoya Road. There are a lot of priests staying at the Monte Fano. We have to climb a long path to reach this place. When we went there we can get the fealing of happiness. It is a very quite place.

We took a tuk tuk to the monastery. The driver was not aware of the location, and our GPS/ google maps helped!

The monastery is a small unassuming place. A young novice gave us an unofficial tour. The shroud of Turin had 2 copies made for experimenting, and when they were not needed, one replica found its way to Sri Lanka.

Monte Fano is the main monastery of the Sylvestro Benedictine Priory in Sri Lanka, founded in 1845.

amidst the cool climated hills of kandy slightly away from the hustle of the city lies the Monestry of Monte Fano. a long winding road takes you uphill with mix feelings of growing curiosity and spirituality which leads you to a landing area surrounded by a tall trees. calm and quietness over whelms you with the greeting of cool fresh air that gently caresses your skin which gives you the feeling that your on holy grounds. standing in front of you, you find a line of ancient architecture. along side you find a gravel road that leads on to the Dormitories but just right before, you find a line of steps that leads you to the right, into a part of the large architecture.

it is here where your knees give way to something so holy that for a moment your brain seems too slow to comprehend what your eye's are seeing. it is this room that holds an exact carbon copy of the "Shroud of Turin".

I have been to Monte Fano for more than thrice and each time I go it feels as if its the first time for me. the feeling when your here is indescribable I'm sure you'll feel somewhat the same.
