Impressive architecture and design throughout the whole site. I haven't stayed at a hotel like this before - and would certainly return again. Amazing views surround the whole site. Every staff member we came across was excellent and genuinely welcoming. The building has improved with age, contrary to reviews describing it as 'tired'. I know it's a small detail but the shower in the room was incredible, looking out through the trees (and monkeys) across the lake through the glass wall - pretty special! The lady who welcomed us on arrival and showed us to our room was outstanding.

The food was very good, but wasn't too dissimilar to the food at cheaper hotels we stayed at on our trip. We weren't disappointed, but there is definitely room for improvement to give the meals the outstanding quality that this hotel warrants. We didn't agree with the hotel having an elephant on site offering rides. I'm sure it is very well looked after (it seems content enough). Elephants should be free to live in their natural habitat.

Room tip: The higher the better!

My husband and I visited Heritance Kandalama last weekend and it was a truly wonderful stay. From the moment we entered the hotel, we saw genuine smiles on the faces of all staff. Very helpful, friendly, nice staff.

The room was spacious and nice with a view of the forest. There are so many monkeys in the area and they even come to the balconies. The monkeys are not harmful at all and seeing how comfortable they are, you see how the hotel blends into nature. This is an ideal place for a nature lover.

The bathrooms have glass walls and you get the feeling you're not in the hotel but in the forest itself. All the trees and bird songs and monkeys and squirrels and the lake make you feel extremely relaxed.

The food is great with good variety. Breakfast is best. Restaurant staff is very attentive and nice. We went for a foot massage at Six Senses Spa and it was a magnificent experience.

The pool on the 7th floor is amazing. It's part rock and part man-made. Most romantic pool I've seen and a very unique experience.

The hotel uses recycled paper which they make on the hotel grounds. You can visit these areas and learn how they make them.

Overall it was a very relaxing, very comforting, unique stay. Want to come back with my family.

Room tip: Tell in advance what type of a view you need. I assume all have great views.

We only stayed here for one night but thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We got a complimentary upgrade from a Luxury Room to Deluxe and made good use of the in room Jacuzzi. The infinity pool is amazing, although right at the edge the pool is quite deep, and this particular pool always seems to be busy.

We got a few visits from nearby monkeys on our hotel room balcony, but thankfully we kept our windows/doors shut on the advice of a staff member so they couldn't steal anything. They were very cute to observe. Apparently another guest lost some jewellery on the same night as us in their room. The room itself was nicely furnished and spacious, and very private and peaceful. The balcony and Jacuzzi are both completely secluded from anyone else's view. There was some funny occasion when not long after we had just checked in, some guy knocked on our door while we were in the bathroom (this was at ~5pm) and asked if we needed our bed made...I wonder if someone was playing a prank on a new staff member or something? We found it amusing nevertheless.

The restaurant had a good selection of foods and they made us some extra vegetarian noodles for dinner when we mentioned we were vegetarian and couldn't eat quite a lot of the buffet selection. The service was excellent and staff were helpful whenever approached. So much better than any other hotel/resort we visited in Sri Lanka...we were definitely impressed.

There were lots of insects on the walls and ceilings of the hotel during the evening, which, due to it's location, is to be expected (though from time to time I jumped a little when the particularly large ones moved rapidly in front of me). The views and natural surroundings, however, make it worth it.

I look forward to re-visiting Heritance Kandalama on our next visit to Sri Lanka :) hopefully for a longer stay so we get more time to try out some of the activities in the area.

A beautiful location for few days only in the middle of the jungle (paradise) to participate in the nearby activities. Very welcoming and very good treatment from personal. The buffet for dinner is full of variety and not bad at all. Some internet connection can occur.

I have visited this New Age architectural wonder with my wife. We had a memorable time at this hotel. Service , Food & Lodging have lived up to the hype. Variety of food is huge. The only thing we dislike was the OVER CROWDED restaurant. But that shows the huge attraction to this nice hotel. The location of the hotel is SUPERB. The Lion Rock, one of the new world's wonders is situated extremely close to the hotel. The Dambulla Cave Temple also situated very close. This hotel is managed by one of leading & reliable companies of Sri Lanka, AITKEN SPENCE. This is a must go hotel in Sri Lanka!!!
