We went here on a rainy evening around 4 pm and the view was absolutely superb. Well this volcano last erupted in 1996 so its pretty much a dormant volcano. What was surprising was there was civilization very near to the spot and you can see it from a hike. Small shops and cafe take full advantage of this spot as its a tourist spot and everything is a little overpriced but its ok!

The spot is famous for hiking but due to weather conditions we could no do it but its a sight which is not to be missed!

This view literally made me cry The way up was not as hard as I thought it would be. Every now and then we could stop to rest and drink some water. After watching the most amazing sunrise ever we had some volcano steam boiled eggs and some bread with (beware of the wild ) the way down is also very cool and has amazing views.

If you are doing the hike please remember to bring appropriate shoes, a couple of friends managed to climb using sandals but i can guarantee they suffered a bitalso remember to take a sweatshirt beacause its cold on the top.

Great views to be had here, shame it is all commercialised. Restaurants that are expensive and hawkers selling their wares. But, how many people do you know that have seen an active volcano for real? Last erupted in 1996.

In July and August, hiking to the top is a nightmare. Most people here seem to do their first hike there, and you end up in a slow procession of tired people who should have stayed in their bed instead of spoiling the hike for the fit people who don't stop every meter... Easy hike, people who say otherwise shouldn't do it if they're not up to it. The summit is overcrowded too, which spoils again everything, and it's the same thing going down... A lot of hours wasted because of them.
The mafia guides is another Indonesian b*******. The guides are useless, you can do it on your own. Instead, you will be with a group of people slowing you down that you have to wait for all the time...
The view is good but not awesome. Not really worth a wake-up at 1.30 am. I should have gone with the more expensive ascent of Mount Agung, that would have been more rewarding.
My girlfriend climbed it in May 2013, there were very few people (around 30 at the top, and none on the trail). Difficult to imagine now...

First I want to say that this is definatly worth the effort. However, from reading the write-ups in the excursion leaflets available in Bali, it is a much harder climb than they make out.

Do NOT attempt if you are only averagely fit or have any leg, back, balance or feet injuries.

It is a 2hr climb up a rugged, uneven track with loose shale, rugged steps, in absolute pitch black (other than the torches of other hikers) and is very, very steep.

However if you can make it it is well worth the climb as the views are amazing!!! (Oh, and the climb back down is much easier!!!)
