Awesome staffs and boss, very helpful and considerate. This lovely hotel is very near to the entrance of one of the gates of Old City. Touring around the old city is quite easy and you could request for a free tour guide if you need help. English is very limited though. Every evening you could just sit by the lounge and they will serve you Chinese tea. It's a very nice experience. Definitely going back.

One of the nicest hotels in my 3 weeks in China. The location is easy to find inside the old town but away from the noise and crowds of the other end of the old town. The room was lovely and a good bathroom too. Staff were very helpful although their English almost as limited as my Chinese - thank heavens for translation apps. Breakfast a bit basic. Interesting vegetarian Buddhist buffet a few doors down. Free transport from the airport as I was staying for three nights was most welcome.

Room Tip: One of the higher up rooms will have great views over the roofs of Lijiang old town.

The Emerald Boutique hotel was one of the best hotels we experienced during our 4 weeks in china. The rooms in the upper building are very nice and quiet, and give you a nice view over Lijiang. Nice and friendly staff, very good breakfast.

Excellent location if you want to be away from the crowds and noise, but still live inside the old town of Lijiang. Close to the main road = you do not have to drag your suitcases all over town. Comfortable rooms. Quiet. Quite good breakfast (Chinese or Western) - and you can use the kitchen to prepare an evening snack etc if you ask nicely!

The hotel consists of two courtyards: One next to the (almost only pedestrian and quiet) street and one higher up the hillside, A third courtyard is under construction even higher up, said to be added to the hotel later on. Most guests at the higher courtyard will be somewhat out of breath after climbing the stairs since Lijiang is located at a relatively high altitude. However, the view is great from the upper courtyard!

The hotel arranged for free pickup at the airport since we stayed five nights. The Naxi driver had a safe and comfortable 7 seat (6 passengers) Buick GL8 "shangwuche", which we later negotiated for other trips and outings during our stay (we were six persons, thus ruling out ordinary taxis/sedans. And the ordinary ubiquitous "miandi" minibuses are neither safe nor comfortable on Yunnan's mountainous roads).

The staff at the hotel are nice but are all "outsiders" = young people coming from other provinces to work in Lijiang. It is a boutique hotel - not a homestay or B&B with the locals! On the other hand - almost all old houses in Lijiang old town are rented out to outsiders for various business uses anyway. For a more "authentic" feel I guess it is better to stay in one of the family-owned inns in Shuhe.

All in all an excellent stay and well worth the money!

Room Tip: ---Some of the rooms in the lower courtyard are facing directly to the entrance and reception area. Some noise may be experienced if the hotel is busy and the guests cannot keep quiet. ---Double rooms with _separate single beds_ are only found in the upper courtyard (at least when we were there) = not so convenient if you have trouble walking quite a few stairs. ---The two-story suites in the upper courtyards are said to be converted into family rooms - check with the hotel directly in case the web booking system is not updated. ---However, if the two-story suites are not upgraded, they are not very useful since the ground floor is just an entrance hall with no furniture plus a bathroom, and the second floor bedroom is a little cramped with a weirdly placed washbasin next to the bed and a wc without a door(!).

Since the Old Town is pedestrian-only, I chose this hotel to minimize dragging my luggage along uneven cobblestone streets. Emerald is just off the main road but still within a short walk from the Mu Palace. Great place for a piece of serenity as the rest of Lijiang blasts club music at night. Staff were very accommodating when we arrived early in the morning and gave us a lovely 2-storey suite at the top of the hill with sunrise views of the new town. These rooms are separate from the rest of the hotel and are in their own secluded compound. They take great lengths at providing top-notch service, such as proactively reminding us of the smaller details of the room rate which I have forgotten - the airport transfer upon departure, and helping with our day trip plan so we won't get ripped off.
