We came here as a family of five. The hotel is located in an impersonal area but close to the old town. The hotel was nearly empty, we had two rooms in the first floor - one double twin and one with a double bed. The big room had not a lot of furniture and was rather run down, but everything worked (it had a very new big tv though, which was only Chinese) - in the smaller room only the main light worked, the 4 smaller ones were all broken (not only burned through). Jim the owner was very nice and funny, but a bit unreliable (he promised us breakfast at an arranged time in the morning- but was still asleep), it is for some reason hard to be mad at him.
The hotel is quite run down and the zen garden with the "pool" is in really bad condition - but we were told the hotel will be renovated soon, if it is it will be nice, until then I wouldn't go there again.
It has a nice rooftop terrace and a restaurant in the top floor (which seemed permanently closed).

We were staying 4 nights in this recommended guesthouse and are very happy we did. Thanks to unique places like this our trip through China was perfect. If you're looking for the spic-and-span boutique hotel with unpersonal staff, this is not your place. Jim's stylish hotel is a warm, cosy guesthouse with personal attention and great service. A true winner.

Very cosy tibetan hotel with spacious rooms and good beds. And don't forget to visit the roof terrace for a fabulous view at Dali and the lake! Jim is the very warm and friendly owner. You can also make excursions with him in the surroundings of Dali, he is a very good driver. A relaxed place to stay. The breakfast is as you wish and very good.

Jim's Tibetan Hotel was recommended by our guide book and was a great choice for our two-day stay in Dali. Our third-floor room was large with firm beds (one queen and one twin, which was in a separate little room with a curtain hanging over the doorway between the two rooms), a modern bathroom, wifi, TV, and great view of the mountains. There is also a fourth-floor roof-top terrace with a beautiful 360 degree view of the city, mountains, and lake. The hotel rents bicycles for 40 yuan per day. Jim provides a delicious breakfast (Dutch pancake, yogurt and fruit, and coffee/tea). The hotel is well-located on the outskirts of the old town, so it is close enough to walk to old town but far enough away from the noise that it is nice and quiet. Jim is a tour guide and took us on a unique, day-long tour of the area that included a visit to an Yi (one of the many minorities in Dali) farm, incredible outdoor market, 500 year old temple, and visit to the old town of Weishan. His tour is a bit on the pricy side, so make sure to ask for a quote before booking. Jim also provided us transportation from Dali to Tiger Leaping Gorge at a very reasonable price, which saved us from having to take a bus to Lijiang, another bus to Qiaotou, and then hire a taxi to the trail head. I definitely recommend Jim's Tibetan Hotel for your stay in Dali.

Room tip: Third-floor room was great.

The rooms are fine. Big, clean and I had the best night's sleep in years. Jim's is the antidote to modern hotel chains and we loved it. It's in a great location and Jim is a terrific host and as his English is excellent so we were able to learn lots about Dali and the area. We took one of his tours which was very enjoyable if a touch pricey. We even had our portraits sketched by his friend a local artist whilst we chatted over a beer or two. If you're looking for a fun experience rather than just a place to stay go to Jim's.
