A big and imposing building on top of one of Pleven's hills hides a quite unique exposition that lets you live the events of the battle for Pleven during the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-1878. I would recommend taking a guided tour to really understanding the Epopee.. Tuesdays are "free days" and you would only have to pay for photographs, if you wish. The fees aren't high either way.

Very interesting yet sad place to visit. Amazing art depicting the battle in 1877 to free Pleven from Turkish rule. Well worth a visit - would recommend employing a guide

Pleven Epopee 1877 is situated in Skobelev Park, the site upon which the deciding battle of the five-month siege on the city occurred in 1877 at the end of the Russo-Turkish war which contributed to the Liberation of Bulgaria after five centuries of Ottoman rule.
The building it's self is impressive but the crown jewel is the 115 meter circumference by 15 meter high panorama that has a 12 meter foreground. When one enters the chamber the immediate impression is of being outdoors, overlooking the battlefield. The lighting is very effective and the artifacts in the for-ground make the battle scenes seem real.
The only criticism I have is that it is best if you can be accompanied by an English speaking Bulgarian as the tour is in Bulgarian, unless you pay an additional fee for the guide to also translate into English, (and I found that her English was not the best, although understandable)
Admission $3 Lev, English translation an additional $6 Lev, photography of the Panorama an additional $5 Lev.

This very imposing building is built on the former battlefield and houses a small museum commemorating the events. The main feature is the large panorama/diorama, showing the battle between the Russian and Romanian armies and the Turkish army in 1877. It was interesting to see, as I knew little about the war. It could even be improved, if it were possible to see outside from the upper stories or roof, so as to compare the modern views with the battlefield paintings. It's helpful to go with a Bulgarian as the guided tour is not in English.
