Good neighborhood to eat some pasta (lasagna is my favorite) and drink some wine. Locals are very friendly.

The neighborhood is cozy and full of restaurants, cafes, wine shops, gift shops but nothing I saw there was first class. I have heard of one or two restaurants above average, but most of them offer only huge amounts of run-of-the-mill food, which is the case of the famous Madalosso. Wines are cheap, but not good. It's an interesting place if you enjoy popular "rodizios" (all-you-can-eat) but there's nothing else to appreciate.

If you go to Manoel Ribas´s street, and reach Santa felicidade District, you will get completely lost about the infinity of Italian restaurants options. And be sure, you will enjoy each one restaurant you have lunch (impossible to have lunch at all of them in just one day)

It's an italian neighborhood, famous in the city for its restaurants. Do not expect to feel yourself in Bologna, Milan or Naples. It's the brazilian way the make italian food - don't feel surprised if you find it even better than the italian one (and cheaper and frequently in an all you can eat mode).
Enjoy
