Visited in January. Be sure to take the tour that is on the weekend-led by friendly and knowledgeable people to an area not open to the public.

We went on the weekend when the tour was available and a very knowledgeable and friendly guide took us into the canyon to the grotto and cave. Interesting scenery, a few birds, and a fantastic look at a special area-the pool and grotto. and the interior of a limestone cave that is actually still growing stalactites and stalagmites. Not an easy walk, not suitable for strollers. The visitors center is interesting too, and we walked the savannah areas and visited a nice bird blind that was quite active. They also have picnic tables available and good restrooms. Highly recommend visiting, but watch the hours and watch for the weekend $15.00 tour. Worth the money.

West Cave is one of those places where our visitors can't believe they are in Austin. They usually come here thinking they will see Texas scrub bush desert. Are usually surprised to see our hills. And, then when we visit a West Cave tour they can't believenthat they are in the southwest. A must-go location for your visitors!

Go here it will be a great time! the canyon is great and I learned a lot about this area of Texas. There are only specific days where you can do tours so please check before just showing up.

What an amazing place to visit. Westcave is peaceful nature preserve tucked away in the hills. The park is small and intimate and you get to see a lot of wild life. The guided tour down to the grotto is a must - our guide Ryan was fantastic and not only taught us about the flora and fauna of Westcave but also of all the great conservation work the center does. The grotto is so peaceful and the hike is relatively easy as long as you are comfortable on steps. We even got lucky and met an armadillo along the way. I also enjoyed the uplands trail and spent some time bird watching. Really glad I made the drive out and look forward to visiting again someday.
