We took the grandkids to see the BATS come out of the bridge at sunset! We found out too late that there is a boat cruise opportunity to see the bats from the river... they were already booked up. So we watched the from the south shore where the official Bat Observatory is located. And there is parking there as well.

See the world's largest bat colony that is 1.5 million under the south congress bridge in Austin Texas. The Austin bats are among the top things to do well as well as attractions to do in Austin and all of Texas. But you have to come during March - October in order to see them. The bats live underneath the south congress bridge which is in downtown Austin. The bats normally come out of the right after the sunset.

Not the best bay flight I’ve ever seen but pretty cool. Make sure to get there early because people tend to crowd the bridge and you are standing next to a busy street. Better to view via the park north of the bridge or from the water/ water tours. Enjoy!

Great bats. No, the best bats. They fly well, unlike bats I've seen before that don't fly well. These are really good bats.

So cool to see the 1.5 million bats emerge from under the bridge at dusk. I recommend standing under the bridge rather than on it. Then you are looking up at the still-light sky for contrast, rather than looking against the dark river. They come out on only one side, so follow the crowd. We waited a long time, didn’t come out till 8:45, almost dark!
