Always a Great Stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 21, 2017
The staff are amazing; super friendly and very efficient. The room is spacious the bed is very comfortable and the decor is funky! The music next door at my brother's mustache is awesome. The location is great too, lots of places to eat nearby.

Staycation is my purpose of staying at Hive Hotel. My room is clean overall, but there are some parts that do not appear to be regularly cleaned: like some dust inside the wardrobe cabinet; the table lamp has a thin layer of dust on it too; the sofa/bed and bedside tables don't look clean enough. Comfort level is medium, because the air conditioner is not cool enough that I had to request for an electric fan; the window is not able to filter out the sounds from outside/streets, and in a bustling 'gimmick' area of QC, it get noisier in the late evenings, therefore I couldn't get a restful sleep. I love the eco concept (they use rainwater for flushing toilets, floorboards are from recycled wood, complimentary purified water in mason jar, etc.), and the semi-retro design of the hotel. The rooms are a lot bigger than other boutique hotels. The location is very close to a lot of restaurants. In fact, it's only a block away from Il Terrazo where there are quite a few restos, a cafe and Bonchon fastfood. Breakfast was plated, not buffet - it's not bad, but not excellent either, and not a lot of choices if you want to order room service. I appreciate they gave me complimentary platter of local fruits plus a glass of calamansi juice, when I inquired about fruits for room service. Overall, hotel is great, but only because I couldn't get a good night's sleep - that alone might not make me want to return for another staycation.

Room tip: Deluxe rooms are okay. No need to book Deluxe room with garden view.

It is conveniently located with good access to public transport. Good training venue as halls have good air conditioning, sound system, food, & service crew.

Bedrooms are clean & pleasantly decorated. Make sure to choose rooms with windows or it would feel like you're inside a vault. The hotel is cozy though it has industrial design. Beds are so comfortable and toiletries are eco-friendly. However bathrooms are very small that the door would almost hit your face when you're seated on the toilet bowl.

However it is not a good time to do staycation there now as portions are being renovated. So you don't get to use the jacuzzi pools, the coffeeshop, etc.

Room tip: Ask for rooms with windows.

I've been staying in this hotel a couple of times since last year. I really like how the staffs remember me and call me by my name, not just one or two staffs but some of them, actually. One time I've checked out and forgotten where I put my cellphone, they really searched every single corner of my room to help find it (turns out I've packed it in my luggage, oops!). Point is, the staffs are friendly, helpful and dependable. My favorites are Matthew and John.

I also like their breakfast: selection of food that will be served to you. They're good and freshly prepared.

Room is okay, it has everything that you need, fridge, safe deposit box, extra couch by the side of the bed, etc. Most rooms I've been are quiet. They provide water in a bottle, which is nice - environmental friendly. The size of the room is perfect, not too big and not too small.

Why not 5 star? They don't have the pool yet! But despite of that, the location is very good. There's a bar nearby, lots of restaurants, massage place, supermarket, 7/11, Starbuck etc.

Will definitely come back.

The room has a lot of dusts, broken faucets and stained mirrors. The bed however was very comfy combined with memory foam pillows. One of the best sleep I had in a hotel.

Customer service was also exemplary. From check-in to check-out, the hotel staff showed hospitality at its finest.

Food was very good, but the garden was a little let down.

Overall, I really do hope that the management fix the mentioned issues, you have the best staff and customer service. You just have to improve the quality of the rooms and the hotel itself.

The Reception

Checked-in late at night and the staff were ready to receive us by the looks of it. The reservation process was completed swiftly and our luggage brought to our rooms right away. We had one of their Cluster Rooms as we are a family of 4 adults, on a short holiday. We stayed here for 2 nights only.

The Cluster Room

The building looks old, the room we had was a bit dark and gloomy, definitely not as good as their website photos and description. An old small TV on my left as we walked into the room with wires dangling behind it. We gave up after pressing every button on the remote trying to change the channel. Anyway we cannot watch TV from our bed as it was facing away from the bed. We noticed the floors need a bit more cleaning.

This Cluster Room design looked a bit odd to me. It seems like it used to be one big room, then another small room was purposely built inside it. Then they decided not to put an entrance door to the main room for some reason(s). So, there's privacy in the second bedroom but not in the main bedroom (?). Also, the door to the second bedroom was not properly installed it was rubbing heavily against the floor we could hardly close it. The blinds in the second bedroom were very dusty my daughter noticed it when she accidentally rubbed her white shirt against it.

The external noise can be heard loud and clear inside the main bedroom as if the windows were open. We woke up very early from the noise of the vehicles passing by..

The Bathroom

The size of the bathroom is good. But the shower area was not properly constructed (unfinished ?) there was nothing underneath the shower door to stop the water from flowing through to the toilet area which can get slippery.

The Skygarden

We had breakfast the following morning at The Skygarden and were very well-assisted by the wonderful and cheerful staff.. The food was average. However this Skygarden is not conducive for serving food to my opinion. A lot of loose garden soil in the rockery next to our breakfast table while plants that surrounds it are mostly withered. The surrounding walls/ceiling/rafters looked damaged.

Finally

We like the location because of its proximity to the cafes & restaurants we love. And of course we had our breakfast the next day in one of those cafes.

The hotel staff were all nice, polite and always willing and ready to help. During our checkout they did an excellent job of securing the best transport we can have on the way to our next apartment-hotel. We are very impressed and very thankful.

Room tip: Request a quiet room if there is any.
