So lovely to get away from the crowds in the city. Beautiful scenery with lots of gorgeous little shops and cafes. There is also the monkey park in the area as well. It is really worth having a look here.

You're going to need some time to cover all the areas so get an early start or plan on coming for 2 days if you want to see everything there is here. It can get crowded but there are so many shops, temples and shrines tucked away here that you don't or shouldn't be bored.

We went to the bamboo forest. Took the walk through it and was amazed about the height of the trees.

Half hour train trip from Kyoto but, as expected, completely overrun with tourists. The Bamboo groves are impressive and there are some nice walks. The town itself is full of tourist shops and poor restaurants so maybe plan an early morning visit and return to Kyoto for lunch

The best way to tackle Arashiyama is by bike. You get so much more done. Arashiyama is just beautiful and serene. We have a spot we go to by the water that is so peaceful. Go like you are going to the Monkey Park but keep cycling up about 200 feet and you can see an area where there are rocks and you can sit there and dip your feet. Absolutely beautiful and relaxing.
