We had a brilliant stay at this hotel, the staff were amazingly helpful and caring. This made our 5 day stay very special. Our room was modern, quiet and very comfortable. The hotel has a great bath house as well. Excellent breakfast.
We highly recomend this hotel- great location, too.

Kyoto Granbell Hotel (KGH) is a hip take on a traditional Japanese hotel, located in prime sightseeing territory, the famed Gion district.

Although this hotel isn’t cheap for an extremely bijou room, it is competitive for the city and offers pretty much everything you need in terms of western comforts (King-sized bed, large screen TV, electronic device outlets, as well as all the basic amenities). The main feature here is its location – close to transport links, old Kyoto and central to copious parks, shrines, restaurants, nightlife and other sights of interest. It even has an onsite Onsen, though we didn’t get a chance to try it out ourselves. On the main floor, there’s a sleek bar and restaurant, along with a surprisingly expansive relaxation area, including a fun foosball table.

The only challenge we had was opening our suitcases (in such a tiny room). Like many travellers, we had large suitcases and there wasn’t even room to open one-at-a-time on the floor. We had to sling each them on the bed for access – and then close them up immediately afterwards. Let’s just say it was less than convenient and I felt bad for the pristine white linens.

Aside from that, the service was quite satisfactory and we were very pleased with our choice overall. We’d definitely choose KGH again for our next stay in Kyoto, based on all the pluses.

Amazing place to stay! Great location and helpful staff! Used the BeBot for the first time there too, and helped us make a reservation at a restaurant that is hard to get into!! I would love to stay at this place again, or any other sister hotels!

At first we were quite concerned about the small size of the rooms -- bed filled the room and a miniscule closet and no drawers for clothes, and no view. But then we decided to simply enjoy the cocoon and ended up very happy. The downstairs public onsen is lovely -- and we used it every night. The location is fabulous -- in the Gion with lots of restaurants and shrines very close by. If you care about space, try to reserve the king size rooms. We were here for 6 nights and used the washer dryers for laundry. Definitely better than the normal cost for laundry service. So .. go with the flow and simply enjoy this very lovely Japanese style hotel. We did.
