A really nice hotel to relax and refresh for a few days. Clean and comfortable and quaintly Japanese. The tatami style family rooms with included dinner and breakfast buffet are the way to go even if just for two people. Dinner was absolutely fantastic every night, ( we stayed 8 nights and neverhad a repeated dinner service.) the tables are beautifully set and food is mostly cooked at the table in small individual cooking devices. Everything is delicious and truly Japanese. No disappointments at dinner service, outstanding quality and variety and presentation!
The buffet breakfast is fine also, but very Japanese style as well. western choices limited to cereal, toast, yogurt some fruit choices, coffee and juice. But many Japanese style foods that are good for adventurous eaters. Sashimi, noodles, curry, roasted fish, pickled vegetables. Braised pork belly and soup dumplings and even ice cream.
The Japanese style bathing is very comfortable and relaxing with shower facilities and dressing areas for before and after the hot baths( separate men’s and women’s areas no clothing allowed as is customary in these public baths.)But up to four can reserve private baths for family to bathe together for about 20$ hr.
English was spoken by many staff but limited. There is always someone that can help if you need better translation. And a free shuttle to Sapporo each day was very comfortable and nice to have to eat lunch and shop. ( the hotel does not offer a pay for restaurant on the premises but a limited number of small places out side the hotel are around.)
Please understand this area of Josenkei is in the hot springs (Onsen) area and is a hour drive to Sapporo and 90 minutes to Chitose airport. Public Busses are available right in front of hotel and are easy to use
Very quite peaceful place without the same amenities as a western style hotel ( lobby bar, coffee shop or even staff to help with bags) But a self service coffee and free wine service is available in the CD listening area and tea is offered in the afternoon at the library sitting area near the reception desk.
This may not be a perfect choice for all travelers, but if you want authentic style comfort and outstanding 5 star dinners this place is highly recommended.

Overall, the hotel is located in a good location where is close to the bus stop. However, we don’t feel comfortable with it’s guest hierarchical system.

Before I visit this hotel, I did some research and compare different hotels among the area, such as price, guest experience and hot spring quality. We picked this hotel because we are willing to pay more for their dinner.

Their dinner is amazing. The food is delicious and very dedicated.

However, we don’t like their guest experience. First, we are not provided with the little bags to keep our own things when we go for hot spring. Hot spring in Japan, they usually provide you with the little bags to keep your things when you go to the hot spring, which is a custom. That’s why I asked the server why there’s no such little bags in our rooms, the server told me that they usually provide the bags only to those guests who paid more. What????? So the hotel got a guest hierarchical system? Even we paid around USD300 per night, and we stayed here for two nights, we are not paying enough for a little bag which costs the company around USD0.5 or less only?

That’s interesting! I don’t understand the rationale behind the company management.

Next thing, I am not happy about is that we found bugs in my sister in law’s bed. That’s disgusting.

Therefore, overall the two star I gave is for the dinner, and the 1 star I gave is for the hot spring. I won’t give a star to this hotel’s management and the guest experience.

The hotel is well maintained. The interior is much better than how it looks from its exterior outlook.

Japanese family room is very big and spacious. Japanese tea set, cake, tatami, etc.. the children get to explore, learn and enjoy it very much. Put on the Yukata and explore the hotel is a different experience for the kids too.

Enjoy both the private and public onsen. The public onsen at L12 is big and L1 onsen is nice too.

Breakfast offer many choices. There are many flavors of ice cream too which many din't realize. Kaiseki dinner was great with a slightly different menu for children.

WiFi only available at the lobby (you might still get free wifi signal if you are near to the window of your room) where they provide drinks at another corner while you are surfing or enjoying some light music.

Room Tip: Go with private onsen if you are a young family, your kids will enjoy it!

Stay here with my family. We reserved 3rooms for 6 adult. Hotel looks new with comfort Japanese style decration. There are 2 public onsen bath for hotel guess. Both of them have open onsen. Water of onsen bath on 12th floor is more hot than the one in 1st floor which I like that temperatute. Private onsen at12th floor is also great but a bit charged high price. 2160jpy for 45mins. You can email hotel to reserve private bath in advance. As I arrived, all 3private bath are fully booked. Dinner was OK but not great when compared to room charge. It may be due to the season of red leaf. Free coffee and white wine provided at also night time till 22:00. Convenient store nearby. Buffet breakfast has not yet tried...

Room Tip: Book private onsen

Hana Momiji is a lovely Ryokan-ish hotel in Jokanzei district, which is about 1.5 hours from Sapporo. The overall experience was positive, especially the spacious room, Onsen, and scrumptious Japanese dinner. However, major let down being the lack of English speaking staff, and the slightly underwhelming breakfast. There are quite a few hotels nearby with Onsen facilities. The surrounding area was easy to get by, especially for those who do not mind a bit of walking. It would have been better to hire a car in retrospect but we didn't mind walking at all.
