It's really hard to review this hotel as it doesn't fit any normal criteria.

We accept that as a mature couple we aren't the hotels target market so may be it's just not for us

Undoubtedly very comfortable rooms were offset by an unwelcoming check-in. The reviewer who refers to think 'Manuel ' from faulty towers was correct. We asked if we needed to book a reservation for the restaurant as we'd had a long days travel. We were told no it wasn't necessary but there were no tables. Asking at reception where we could find somewhere to eat we encountered the grinning Manuel who gestured "I know nothing".

Make sure you eat well before 8.30 or you will find yourself turned away from the fast food restaurants at the nearby Wal-Mart ( even though they say they're open to 10pm.

Couple Manuel with a "Lost In Translation" feel as the place is often empty and a bit soulless.
There is no information to advise you of the hotel facilities due to its minimalist nature.

Strangely we actually found this fun as it felt bizarre and created our own entertainment.

We'd been told there was a rooftop bar which we eventually found on the ground floor behind reception. We called in for a cocktail to be told there was a private party at 9pm. Undeterred we went in to the empty bar where it took 3 barmen to make 2 cocktails. The music was exceptionally good and we were about to leave before the 9pm party when all of a sudden a dance teacher arrived with a few other people and we were encouraged to join in. ( we suspect this friendly approach was by the dance teacher responsible for the 9pm booking rather than the hotel staff)

So all a bit strange. The rooms are ultra modern and comfortable but the hotel often feels to lack normal hotel service levels.
All this was compounded at check out. We had been told we needed to depart by 6.20am as the road was being closed for the city marathon. Initially we were told we would be given a take away as breakfast didn't start until 7am. This was then changed to say they were opening breakfast at 6am as a number of guests were running in the marathon.

We checked out before 6 and went into a dark breakfast room with a number of Chinese angrily remonstrating that there was no breakfast available. We managed to get the receptionist to come and tell the staff what should be happening. As a result of this bits of cereal, fruit and some packaged pastries started to appear and a ludicrous breakfast scavenge took place so people could get something either before their race or needed to depart for onward travel. We felt sorry for runners whose race plans were trashed after months of preparation.

The management here seems none existent and there is no communication between staff or with guests.

Definitely not recommended based on our experience.

Please note there are two tea hotels in Hangzhou. The one on Yugu Rd is highly recommended as a comfortable, clean hotel. Nearby eateries are fabulous. You can hire a bike ato go to the Park and also bike to subway to go to City centre. The location is ideal as the area is relaxing and beautiful. The rooftop cafe is really nice for the morning coffee, which came complimentary with the room. I'd highly recommend.

An oasis of calm and excellent service in a chaotic world. We unfortunately only stayed one night, but our room was spacious and excellently furnished. The bar is a great place to chill, with moderately priced and a wide selection of drinks and a surprisingly good mixture of sounds from around the world. My Negroni was perfect. Limited selection of wines by the glass though. We will definitely visit again.

Good location and all the rooms have a nice design but If you want a room with a view of the lake, that will not be possible because it only has 3 floors.
The reception lobby is a little cold but you can get over it.
In the room there is a master switch button which cuts off al the power to the room, even the plugs. If you push it, your phone won't charge.

Room Tip: There is a master switch button which cuts off al the power to the room, even the plugs. If you push it, your phone won't charge.

By all accounts this place was reported as a 4.5 star hotel. Reality bites and 2 star rating at best. The Hotel entry floor is cracked and broken, it is dark, dirty, damp and musty. Staff are amateurs and untidy. One single very tired lift. Rooms are tired and very smelly. Not a nice place at all. I feel many of the reviews are bogus just to get you in and take your money. Photos are not true to like. Stay at your own risk.

Room Tip: No room is any good....all very tired
