This was our last stop in our 10 day tour of China in October 17. The location was great and we had a view of the river which was amazing.
The staff at the reception spoke good English which was a nice surprise and they were very helpful. Great amenities for a hostel.

The room is much smaller than what's shown in the photos and the bathroom is tiny. There's no shower curtain and the whole floor gets wet when showering. There is no elevator. The receptionist did offer to take our bags upstairs but we had to bring it down when we were leaving as we didn't want to ask.

The breakfast of fried eggs/toast was quite poor. We would have skipped breakfast but we had an early start on both days so we decided to gulp it down.

Our travel agent had gone by the photos and 4 star rating when she booked this for us. It's very good for a hostel but if you are looking for facilities of a hotel, this is not it!

The hotel is located within walking distances to both the train and coach stations as well as to a couple of night markets. Its right by a river thus has more open sky from room windows.

I had a room with a small toilet but it doesn't bother me.

The hostel was very good indeed. We stayed there for three nights in early October 2017. The room had three bunk beds. There were mosquito nets (which did not seem necessary). The bathroom could have been better, but for the hostel's aspirations the package deal was very good. It had awesome flair - the walls are covered in hand-written messages of prior visitors, and there are communal areas with table football and a darts game. You get a great view of the river, too. Laundry was quick and easy. The staff mostly spoke English and was able to rapidly organise day trips to sights around the city - day trips that we would have completely missed had we not gone to this hostel. Overall, the hostel had great charm, situated next to a slowly flowing river, a few hundred metres down from a picturesque bridge and with a jogging path out back. Would visit again!

The Riverside Hostel is nicely situated on the riverfront in Guilin. We stayed in the family room which had nice large windows overlooking the river. The room was really nice except for the fact that they've obviously had a water problem and the flooring near the bathroom is crumbling away and nobody has taken the time to fix it, nor clean it up for that matter.

The room had a queen sized bed and two twin beds, which made it ideal for our family of 4. The beds were really comfortable with nice bedding and pillows. The bathroom was nice with a great stall shower, good water pressure and lots of hot water. The AC was very welcome as the weather was very hot and sweaty when we visited in late September. The cleaning staff did a light cleaning of our room every day and supplied us with an ample number of clean towels every day.

The hostel's common area was great to sit and relax. The wifi was ok for the most part. The signal in our room wasn't the best but in the common area it was better. The common area also has a foosball table for those who are interested in challenging their friends.

The hostel offers all-day western-style breakfast for a reasonable cost. We ate breakfast there a few times during our stay. The hostel also will do washing in their machine for 20 RMB per load and then you have to haul it up to the roof and hang it yourself.

The staff were quite helpful and provided us with good directions and restaurant recommendations when we asked. They did try to convince us to book a few tours through them but we organized tours on our own.

Our stay cost us $33 CAD per night, which I think was a good deal.

Room tip: Riverfront rooms have a good view

When I arrived, I learned that I had received a room upgrade. I was very happy about that and there is also nothing to complain. The room was nice and clean and the staff spoke good English. The hostel is located near a bus stop.
