We spent eight nights at the Vienna on the Zhongshan Road and we found it to be very clean and conveniently located - close to restaurants, ( McFound, Chungji), small markets for fresh fruit and snacks, walking distance from the Starbucks (walk out of the hotel, turn left and walk on the left side of the Zhongshan Road) and across the street from Bank of China. We had room 961 which was large, clean, with a nice view of the city and the river, good A/C, flat screen TV and safe box. It was very clean, had a reasonably large bathroom and all the amenities expected from a much more expensive hotel. Yes, the breakfast is all Chinese and very little English is spoken by the hotel staff, but you cannot beat the location, the comfort, the view and the price. We would surely stay at this hotel again, next time we are in Guilin.

Room tip: A room on the 9th floor would provide better view and be truly quiet

Vienna Hotel in Zhongshan town is a luxury hotel at budget tariff.
The lobby is large and grand with bright chandelier lighting. The hostess at the check in counter is very efficient.
The hotel rooms are massive with king size beds and nice lounge sofas offering a lavish British ambiance.
The bathroom had a glass separation. The toiletries are minimalist but has all the essentials.
Great value for money as the tariff is ridiculously inexpensive. Strongly recommend this hotel

Reasonably nice & comfortable hotel, however is not close to other activities ( dining, shopping, etc)
The breakfast menu is not very western orientated.
We stayed there during an arranged tour & it was acceptable for the purpose.

Room tip: No issues with any levels, views.

This is a six-story modern hotel with an inviting lobby with lots of glass and well presented. It has an excellent location with good views from the upper floors. However the reception desk would only issue one key per room and said they would open up if the key holder had not returned. One guest found this did not work and so was locked out of their room. The suite was large, clean and well presented but poorly organised. There was no obvious space for suitcases. Storage was poor as the bottom door on the bedside cabinets was locked and two cupboards were full of extra bedding. The clothes cupboard was narrow. Getting the lights to work was not a task for the impatient. The writing desk had no lamp so any writing was done in shadow. The bed was large and comfortable with very good pillows. The bathroom was large with a large mirror and a good sized vanity that allowed room for toilet bags etc.The shower was excellent with a very good non-slip floor. The only drawback was the wiff of drains that was present all the time. For some reason only minimal toilet paper was supplied and this does not work well for women guests. It took two phone calls to get more paper.
Breakfast was on the sixth floor and had a mezzanine floor to cater for busy times. Western food was limited but there was a good selection of Chinese food. No fruit juice was available and the coffee was pre-milked and sugared.

Room tip: Higher floors give good views.

Location is good and close to down town. We asked for a room which is not facing main street so it's quiet in the evening. Room is clean. There is always some bad smell from the carpet in wet season in southern Asia. You would have some local food for breakfest. Taxi service in Guilin is no good, they would more than happy to get you to a tourist hot spot but refuse to get you back.
