Monument to Waiting Woman
Reviewed 27 April 2016

a monument to all women who wait for their men to come back from the sea. As most of the men i the town work at sea it is a very touching monument. it is supposed to be the first thing ships see when reaching the harbour. so we expected it to be much bigger, but it is just a little bit bigger than height of an average woman.

A beautiful shapely monument. When you see the list of accidents at sea (close to the Kursk Memorial then you realize how many women (and kids) there are waiting for their beloved ones. Visit this place during our city excursion,

The woman waiting for his husband at sea. The railings in front of the monument are covered with locks put on by lovers.

This is a sensitive piece of sculpture sighted overlooking the river., quite unlike many of the very stylised sculptures in Russian towns and cities. The area is a popular place for newly married couples to have their photos taken, in fact many leave an engraved padlock
secured to the railings.
We visited the statue on part of our city tour.

If we hadn't been taken to this statue I don't think we would have found it. What it symbolises is very moving and the statue is beautifully sculpted.
