I wish the buildings were a little better maintained, and that there was something more to it than just the buildings, maybe something like a small museum inside one of the building that could give some insight. You get the impression of "old greatness", or "what once was" when you see the buildings and feel a little sorry that they look the way they do now... maintenance is important and its lacking here!

The busy commercial district of Iloilo. There were a lot to buy to take back home. What amazed me were the buildings along this street. It looks like you are in a European avenue. Old buildings in a row

It seems like you go back in time when you roam around Calle Real. Also known as JM Basa St, you can see a lot of old buildings lining up the streets. This is where you can also see old businesses in Iloilo City. You can also find here Roberto's. Roam around in morning, when streets of JM Basa is not busy yet. This way, you can appreciate more its beauty.

History-laden Calle Real used to be the business center of Iloilo City. Its buildings are now heritage sites. Architecture enthusiasts will find the buildings interesting. Still functional, though 'tired and aged', stores line the long stretch of street. It is still peopled with sidewalk vendors and pedestrians. Here one can immerse oneself in the world of day to day small city business: retail buying, the daily struggle to earn a living for the common man, the hurrying public off to errands and business transactions, non-mall shoppers, mothers and schoolchildren traversing to and from school, public commuters.
It is the main artery to City Hall and the city's grandstand. Worth experiencing, worth driving through, worth a walk through for old time's sake.
