After my bacolod trip I went to Iloilo City. and prior to my trip to iloilo, I have already check the internet on the hotels, I choose specifically a cheaper hotel in town. But an office mate of mine has recommended Ong Bun Pension in Ledesma Street.

I made my reservation, although, I was not able to get the room and rate I want to but still I was contented to stay there since staff of Ong Bun Pension are friendly. They are courteous and accomodating. The room are clean and nice. But on my first day I don't have a blanket and a towel since I was tired then I didn't bother to complain I just slept it off. although the next day the bed was already been done neatly with blanket and towel in the toilet. If you have a heavy load to carry the hotel is not for you. since you have to used the stairs. The person guarding beside the stairs doesn't even bother to help you.

If you want thier cheaper room you to have reserved early since they have always no vacant. Compare to Pension Bacolod where in they have a lot of economy room, here in Ong Bun thier economy room is limited.

i always go to ong bun whenever i have time to travel to iloilo. The place is nice, the room service is approachable. But what i really dont like about ong bun is their front office. They dont understand the word"smile". They wont even greet you. They would just stare at you and wait for you to have the first word. I hope the management could see this post for them to be aware of what their employees are doing. All of their font desk officers have the same attitude. Thats what i observed since i have been staying with ong bun almost 3x a year.

After viewing their website, which boasted of pension house prices but hotel quality(probably the most misleading statement we've ever read, though not as misleading as the pictures on their website) we thought we'd found ourselves a right bargain and we're due to have a great nights sleep.
We are 2 backpackers travelling on a budget around the Philippines and have stayed in some questionable accommodation on our trip, (we certainly dont have high standards) but Ong Bun certainly topped them all put together.

We booked 1 nights stay in a fan room 3 days before we were due to arrive, we got a confirmation email response and made our way to the pension house. We immediately knew we weren't in for the stay we promised. there was a que of very unhappy looking families as we arrived. we were greeted by a smiling receptionist, whom we told we had a reservation..They didnt have our details. So i got out our netbook and showed them the email. They told us they hadnt had anything booked and havent got a room like the one we booked. They gave us an alternative with a shared bathroom which i requested to see before we committed to staying in. After being shown a standard looking if not incredibly hot room i asked to see the toilets. From the photos on their site it looks like the cleanest shared bathroom you could imagine. in reality, there were only 2 toilets, for a whole floor of people sharing. And the showers weren't great.

I figured for one night, we could cope so i went downstairs to tell me friend it was ok. By which time the staff and managed to 'find' us a room with aircon and a private bathroom which we took straight away.
When being taken to our room on the 4th floor with all our luggage it wasnt short of a nightmare. we shut the door behind us and just looked at each other in astonishment..

The 'double' room we were given, in fairness was of huge size. it had 4 beds in. but with such a big room the aircon barely made any difference. From the photos, the beds looked comfortable and well looked after..in reality they were dirty, the linen had holes and stains all over it. the 'towels' we were provided with were no bigger than the size of a flannel and again, dirty.
Not that you could possibly shower anyway. the toilet and shower was separated from the room by 2 mdf doors and a partisan. The shower STANK of urine and was filthy dirty. the toilet didnt even have a seat and there was a pipe running along the roof that was leaking down the walls, which added nicely to the stench.

The website also spoke of wifi- a luxury if you could connect..we had to go to the ground floor by reception to get any signal.
The only accurate picture in the website was of the restaurant, however given its surroundings i certainly wouldnt trust buying anything prepared there.

We stayed in Ong Bun all of one hour, we left the room instantly to find a place were we could get wifi signal and get the addresses of ANY accommodation near by. we managed to get the name of one place before there was a black out and we were cut off from the internet. When power returned, we made our way upstairs to pack our things. all of the other floors had emergency generators..except for ours..which mean of course the only slightly redeeming thing about our room (the air con) was now also a no no.

To add to this, as we were standing in the room, a porter just opened the door and walked in, no knock or 'sorry'- just took something off of the bed and walked out! after this i realized even our stuff wasnt safe.

I went downstairs to check out and get our money back. After explaining why, the receptionist wasnt very sympathetic. She said that the hotel doesnt give refunds after guests have stayed over 2 hours. When i pointed out that we'd only been there for an hour her story soon changed to 'oh i meant 45mins'. After being adamant they werent going to give any money back (not even half) i asked if we could atleast be transferred to another room. She said there were no others avalible.

To which i asked for her to come and see our room for herself, so she could understand what i was trying to tell her. It took 10 mins for them to finally come to and get a housekeeping maid to escort me to my room. Due to the blackout this of course made it difficult but even she agreed if was 'very ugly' and hadnt realized there was no seat on the toilet.
After another 15 mins of patiently telling them there was no possible way we could stay there the night they eventually, very reluctantly gave us all our money back. However it was practically thrown at me and there were a few remarks as i left.

I certainly would NOT recommend Ong Bun to ANYONE,no matter how tight the budget it really isnt worth your money...or your health!
