Definitely worth coming to.
A little touristy, but you can tell its only those who can afford to come who do.
I came from Tacloban. Had to take a van to Naval, then a carrier boat to maripipi, and then another small traditional boat to the Island. I fortunately had a native with me who did all the negotiating.
It is very beautiful, great place to watch the sunset. Can stay on the island in these small huts (I didn't as it was quite pricey). Water is pristine.
Recommended is you have the time and money.
before i came to malapascua i found this island in the dive site introduction and got great interest in it, also the pics i saw online of it and the maripipi volcano told me that they were waiving their hands to me
at my request, our dive store Thresher Shark Diver organized a day trip after 7 months from their last one
so we were here on a sunny day, after about 3 hours' riding when our local boatmen showed the islands to us every divers were so exciting, we did 2 wonderful dives here, the water's so clear, corals beautiful, visibility very high, lots of black corals in different colours.... on our way to and back from here we saw many flying fish as well as dolphins jumping out of the water from the boat
in a word, sambawan/maripipi is some site that every diver shall try, i wish i could have a chance to dive nearer to the maripipi volcano some day
We came here for an overnight stay and found the cottages a bit overpriced, probably as we had foreigners in our group. Mainly for local tourists and not much to do apart from a hill lookout to climb and a bare rocky beach to swim on. Certainly seen better beaches elsewhere.
It is okay but for the entrance and all the unbelievable fees that you need to pay, there are far better islands that are more worthy to visit.
You can find less corals and fishes. Not value for money.
It was one of the best trips I’ve ever had so far. :)
With the side trips going to Sambawan island, your eyes will already be filled with nature. You’ll be experiencing a lot of mode of transportation upon going there: From Naval, you have to ride a bus going to Cawayan then get a boat going to Maripipi Island. In Maripipi Island, you’ll enjoy a quite long motorcycle or “habal-habal” ride going to Ol-og which is considered as the nearest jump point going to the island.
Let’s talk about the island then. So, Sambawan Island is really quiet literally. For me, I could consider it as a deserted island with just having nipa huts and a scheduled electric supply. So much for that anyway, I was there just to witness how breathtaking the island is.
When I got there, I have observed that the sand and the water are just as usual as some other beautiful beaches here in Ph but when you got to their view deck (very important), everything is just wonderful. Wonderful is an understatement I guess. I could just stay there for hours and relieve stress.
What a great day!
This place gives you amazing view and some Instagram-worthy photos. You can swim from the shore but i suggest you wear aqua shoes just in case. Php2500 for kubo good for 10pax. Haggle you can get it for Php2K :P (if off peak)
