Don't believe the hype about this resort. Too expensive and not worth it.

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 4, 2023
I don't know where to start. First of all, the price of this place is not worth it. My wife and I stayed for 2 nights/3 days. We decided to stay here after all the hype and good reviews. With so much expectation, my wife and I were both disappointed. Everything is outdated! Starting from the lobby, their sitting couches looked very dirty. And that already gave me the first sign. When I entered our room, a fly and mosquitoes are already present. Giving the benefit of the doubt, there's a French door going to the back patio. So it's fine! The whole entire room only have one garbage. You have to go to the bathroom every time you throw something away. They need to clean the bathroom much better like making the bathroom faucets shiny. To make this experience worse, I saw a little rat under the bathroom sink In the middle of the night. I told the front desk and manager Aaron the next day about it and they told me that I should have informed them right away. He said they could have given me a new room. Who would transfer rooms at 2am?
The restaurants have ridiculous rules. We were not allowed to talk on the phone while inside the restaurant. I was confused for a moment, I thought I went to a library and not a restaurant. Food was not that good and service was lame.
Lastly, I was so disappointed with the lagoon. The floor was very slimy and the water is dirty. I was only in the water for thirty minutes. We were only allowed to get 2 thin cheap towels. With the price of this hotel, they couldn't provide a good quality towels!
To end this review, do not waste your money coming here. With my experience on this trip, this was a nightmare!

Not impressed. I paid for a day pass and the lunch was SO LIMITED! Barely any choices available. If you're a vegetarian (I'm not by the way), then you're tough outta luck I'm afraid! It's chicken adobo or fish. That's it.

We went to the gym and I was in-between sets, and I went on my phone to check my notes for which set I wanted to do next. The person at the gym reception came waltzing in and told me I'm not allowed to use my phone to text anybody. There's signs on the door saying no music to he played, that's fair enough. But I was simply looking at my notes to see what set I wanted to do next as I couldn't remember what I'd written down. I couldn't believe I was told I wasn't allowed to even do that?!

I'd understand if I was holding up equipment but only me and my partner were in there?!

Absolutely terrible service, I'm gobsmacked quite honestly. I wouldn't return here if you paid me! Absolutely ruined my workout vibe and I ended up walking out pretty upset.

Don't bother going here!

Plantation Bay Resort And Spa is a beautiful resort with a lot of swimming pools and man-made lagoons to choose. Plenty of restaurants within the resort and spacious and comfortable rooms. The service they give will satisfy your needs and expectations.

Do take the time to read this mixed review.

I can't ever deny that this is a beautiful resort with a lot of swimming pools and man-made lagoons to choose from. Structures are very pleasing for the eyes. Plenty of restaurants within the resort, which is quite pricey for its medium serving size and so-so taste. The same goes for the buffet, it is mediocre in taste. The only reason I can find why their food is expensive is because of their operating cost and the name of the resort. Please stop being in denial about your prices, too. So if you are willing to head to the city, might as well spend your money on buffets at hotels in Cebu, or search in Google where you can eat and get the bang for your buck.

This place is not for you if you have expressive and vocal toddlers, because a tiny shriek of joy will get you a reprimand from the life guards. Wanna use your phone at their cafe? Prepare to have waitresses coming to your table reminding you every few minutes to keep your phone silent, no phone calls—even when you are just peacefully reading an article on your phone. I honestly would love to tell them "shut up, no need to tell me three times.", but that would be rude of me. Throughout the years of coming to this resort since 13 years ago, I can say this place is better suited for couples. This could also be a retreat house due to plenty of restrictions.

This beautiful resort has been in the hospitality industry for years, but the way they respond to criticism is amusing and unbelievable. They are unable to receive a criticism and will downplay and dismiss their guests feelings. This is a resort that is way too proud of their success, to the point of losing their ability to respond with humility. Blinded by arrogance and pride. They will mock you to no end—do read their responses to low ratings, especially from that female general manager. Something that is out of character for a business in this industry.

Be careful with their arrogant and assertive staff—it is their character even if they deny it, or explain why. And you may search about their previous controversy regarding a guest who has a child with special needs, to further prove my point. They don’t care about your concerns and how you feel, and will most likely blame you. That sounds like a toxic ex-lover.

Used to be my favorite resort in Cebu, until a particular incident during my last stay. No need to post about the details, because I have already sent an email and received a disappointing and arrogant response.

Room tip: It's not that much of a bad resort, it's actually a beautiful place. Service is a hit or miss.

Absolutely loved this place, we stayed in a logoon side room. Treated like royalty and the restaurants were great. The breakfast is not for westerners, most of it is cold. I would definitely return to this resort. The tours from here are definitely worth it, they treat you so well. Great tour guides. Had a romantic dinner which was good for the money.

Room tip: Take the shuttle into cebu, getting a taxi is hard because of traffic

Plantation Bay is still at its tops, but they still need to improve.
On how they handle children when we checked in. We dined at their Spanish restaurant. When my nephew was watching from his tablet. We were immediately told that it is not alone. The lady or the waitress could not even answer us on why it's not allowed. She has to run to her supervisor and ask. Then I told her which. Would you like a screaming baby? Or simply allow us a very minimal voice. Also, she could have recommended that. There is a play area beside the restaurant where she could have referred us to. The staff does not know how to sell or introduce other areas in the hotel. Which means it is not maximized. Their amenities is still very good. Their rooms are great, and their food and restaurant outlets are also great

Room tip: If you have children better have other option than plantation bay
