Been here for every family events and always enjoyed our stay. Smooth check in process, excellent rooms and we noticed that the breakfast greatly improved. The resort gives a full relaxation and enjoyed a long 8 hour sleep after many weeks. No unnecessary noises. We had the Spanish bfast theme. They have the best tasting croissant in town! Buttery, soft in the inside but crunchy in the outside. Always has the best weekend vacation. We will definitely be back.

Dreadful hotel- not a 5* that’s for sure.
Service was TERRIBLE. No one wanted to help and the tone of which they spoke was awful too.
Most restaurants and activities closed.
They charge you for absolutely everything.
The bath wasn’t cleaned properly and when I went to get in was covered in someone’s long blonde hair (mines dark brown).
The walls are paper thin, could hear the tv next door and couple speaking.
However, the food was great (but cost a fortune).

No robes or slippers in the room.
No complimentary water; when we called they told us we can have one for free then we have to pay.

I’m still not comprehending the staffs attitudes and unhelpfulness.

Room tip: Don’t go

Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, General Manager at Plantation Bay Resort And Spa, responded to this reviewResponded February 10, 2023

Dear TripAdvisor Reader,

According to our records, during this reviewer's three-day stay, they were given a complimentary cake and a room with a canopied king bed and excellent views of our extensive lagoons based on her assertion that they were celebrating an anniversary.

We are frankly dumbfounded that, even with a romantic partner at her side, she felt they had already run out of things to do. So many of our guests stay 7-14 days and still feel they haven't tried everything. We are extremely popular with honeymooners and couples, precisely because of the extensive activities suitable for couples.

Alone of all the hotels in the world, we have a "just don't like it" money back guarantee. If, within 4 hours of checking in, you decide you are unhappy at Plantation Bay, we will not only give you a 100% refund, we will also help you reserve at another hotel in Metro Cebu and give you free car-service to that hotel. (Some restrictions apply.) If this person was so dissatisfied, why didn't she invoke our guarantee?

Sincerely,

Cherry Allego
General Manager

A friend asked me about this place, which led me to the review section here. I stayed here for nine days in July of 2022 and submitted a review elsewhere. I had no intention of posting today, but feel it necessary after reading condescending responses from management. The Los Angeles poster in July of 2022 is a couple I became acquainted with at the resort; they wrote a truthful review and received an unprofessional response from management. As a highly credentialed business leader, I offer a humble review of my own:

The good: Friendly staff and nice ambiance. The Spa was beautiful. The layout had a lot of potential. Despite all of the downfalls, I was relaxed.

Otherwise, it was disappointment around every corner; so much so, that I could never possibly write about it all. Unannounced closures and noisy construction projects throughout - few amenities for guests - available amenities were severely lacking. After 8 PM, the resort primarily shutdown. Restaurant options were limited; the one place that could properly cook a steak shutdown on the 3rd day of our stay. Resort hadn’t recovered from Covid; outlandish precautions and Covid standards despite that the world had moved on.

For my Aussie friends: Super ridiculous alcohol policy that limited guests to three drinks every two hours (notice this was made a standalone item on my list). People do not pay thousands of dollars to have their beers counted on vacation.

It seemed like this place was on life-support.

Recommend the general manager show some business acumen and humility. The best policy is to accurately present the business condition, and accept/act upon criticisms accordingly. Inevitably, business has been lost due to unprofessional public posts. The response I read to the aforementioned July 2022 post was disgraceful.

We tried to do the right thing and support a Filipino business, despite the presence of reputable Chinese resorts in the area. Hopefully the ownership will do the right thing and begin providing the value expected by guests, or this business will close. Totally underperformed all reasonable expectations of a “4 star resort”…. or did they claim 5 stars?

Despite my rant, I believe this place deserves a second chance; my fiancé and I share a great sense of sentimentality for this resort; the staff were extremely friendly; the potential is massive. I do not have unhappy feelings when I think about my time at this place. Due diligence would be performed before returning to ensure rectification of deficiencies.

Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, General Manager at Plantation Bay Resort And Spa, responded to this reviewResponded January 18, 2023

Dear EO375,

Thank you for commenting favorably on our ambience, spa, and service.

It is true that we're argumentative in our responses, but only to reviews that are grossly unfair or unjustified. When a reviewer is nasty and ill-informed, we say so. When he has valid points, we apologize. More importantly, we listen and take action. If we can improve, we do it. We don't say, "so sorry we failed you, will try to do better next time, hope you come back," on TripAdvisor. We DO it.

To name just a few recent changes that were in response to guest comments: more facilities with longer operating hours, additional activities, and more dining options. See if you can find even one other hotel in Mactan - those whose sweet, subservient words you prefer - which actually makes changes based on guest comments.

Plantation Bay is one of the very few remaining hotels in the world which allows you to cut short your reserved stay without penalty for any reason whatever. Therefore we are amazed that you stayed nine nights without telling us of your "suffering."

We do not want unhappy guests in Plantation Bay because we know people stay in a resort to relax and have fun. Had you told us you were "suffering" at any point during your 9-night stay, we would have gladly refunded your unused room nights and found you an alternative accommodation where you might be happier.

Sincerely,

Cherry Allego
General Manager

My wife and I spent 4 days at Plantation Bay attending a wedding of a close friend. The resort is brilliant value for money and the food, drinks all really nice. The resort is not pretentious but still has a really classy feel. Our only small issue was the wait sometimes for drinks but we do need to learn some patience! Would definitely recommend.

A great resort for families. Variety of activities to choose from. Delicious food. Nice rooms. Excellent service. No tip policy allows for consistent service. It would be great if more frequency is available for airport shuttle bus service.
