Ooma was casual and well laid-out, with music blaring. We sat at a corner table and ordered some of the popular favourites: California Taco Maki, Scallop and Tuna Aburi Maki, Hamachi and Kani Aburi Maki, O-Gyoza, Salmon Tataki, Kani Salad, and House Chahan.
Even just witnessing other people's orders, presentation was meticulous, beautiful, and mouth-watering. Taste offered a variety of textures and each bite seemed different from the last. We really enjoyed all the maki; each was a different take with different levels of crunch, softness, sweetness, and wholesome umami flavours. The house chahan was a good touch, tasty and filling. Our only complaint was with the Salmon Tataki; it lacked in freshness and character but presentation was nonetheless flawless. I think Mom wanted to order more dishes just to see how they looked and tasted like!
One had to ask for tea quite often as wait staff didn't give us much mind, but they were attentive and helpful when asked. A great up-sell had us signing up for the discount card as well; we knew we'd be right back whenever we needed our Japanese cuisine fix. The food can be pricey, especially with the relatively small serves, but it's definitely worth every penny and worth it to try a wide selection of dishes.
