I love the smell in the lobby!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 22, 2019
I really love the smell in the lobby! It is very luxurious! We had a short but great stay. One good thing about this hotel are the staffs who are very kind and hospitable. The hotel is also surrounded by a couple of malls and various restaurants.

Makati Shangri-la used to be the “in” hotel. If you were invited to stay here you could consider yourself privileged. The breakfast buffet at Circles is still ok but the attitude of the staff at this hotel has deteriorated that they now seem rude.

I asked for a new glass of water since my old glass was bussed out. The waiter just gave me a glass of water from the next table. It should have been ok it the meeting was just starting but it was already in the afternoon and that glass may have been used by somebody else.

Since this was a meeting, I there was 2 pieces of paper and a pencil provided at the start of the day. The wait staff collects these after lunch. I was trying to tell the waiter that I wrote down notes and I needed them but he kept on trying to get the paper until I almost raised my voice.

Security, which is the first personnel from the hotel that you interact with is no better. They are the laziest people in the hotel. A five star hotel should have staff ready to assist you at the entrance. Makati Shangri-la, or even Edsa Shangri-la and Shangri-la at the Fort have the worst security personnel. They don’t make any effort to assist you and even have an attitude.

Booked a Superior Room with a King sized bed to celebrate my son's birthday. The hotel and the room are a bit dated, but everything inside the room was still in perfect condition. The room is spacious and the amenities were complete. Best of all, there were two complimentary plates of goodies inside the room when we arrived: one with fruits and the other with gummies and marshmallows. The food we ordered via room service was also delicious! Aside from this, the front desk staff even went to our room (with our prior permission, of course) to bring a slice of cake and sing happy birthday for our toddler the following morning. One of the housekeeping staff even assisted me (without me asking him to do so) as I brought the cake I ordered into the room. He also took the liberty of looking for matches to help light the candle. Finally, upon check out, the front desk staff also gave our toddler a box of chocolates to bring home. As with any other Shangri-la hotel, the service is just superb. They really made our staycation a memorable one, especially for the birthday boy. Kudos, Makati Shangri-la!

Came here for a business trip from the US. Had coworkers stay here before and recommend it. The rooms were spacious and nice, albeit a little dated. Staff was lovely. Breakfast a little spendy but they had a large variety to choose from, even local foods. Pool area very nice, but be careful-it’s slippery when wet. I took a spill, but the staff rushed to help me and sent for a doctor even though I said I was ok. The WiFi was also good. They offer car service to and from airport, which was handy. They were also very helpful in hailing a cab so we could go to Intramuros. Would stay here again.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Shangri La Makati. The hotel is well located in the best part of town and is located close to the airport via the skyway. Security is excellent.

We did have some issues at check in as the first two rooms we were given had a distinctive smell of dampness which slaps you in the face. The duty manager however was kind enough to tour me through a few rooms until we found one which was acceptable. It was also an upgrade on the room which we had initially booked which was appreciated.

That said we found that the more we ran the air conditioner the more the smell returned. So we found ourselves only running the aircon when absolutely required. I also note others on this forum have complained about this problem dating back some years now. It is disappointing that Shangri-La head office has not taken steps to address this issue.

We found the service to be flawless and the staff were very friendly and helpful. In short you will receive the great Shangri-La service you come to expect at their properties but it’s my opinion that the hotel needs to urgently address the smell issues in the rooms, which may be connected to the air conditioning. This is a real deal breaker and the only reason the hotel received an average rating from me.
