We camped overnight at the lake edge of this volcano and started hiking in the morning. we were a large group of kids and young adults. it looks like a dessert and it gets very hot in the middle of the day that my rubber souls melted off my shoes. at the center top of the volcano is like a little paradise with a lake and shrubs and palm trees.

We came here on a trip from Manila. We took the bus out to Tanauan and then took a tricycle to Talisay. There were four of us so we got our own boat, who waited for us over by the volcano and took us back when we were finished. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet - we ended up soaked from the boat spray, especially on the way back!

The view down into the volcano crater is very cool, and worth the walk up. There are a few places to buy drinks on the way up, and t shirts etc at the top, if you want.

There are a few small fees to pay, so bring cash. We opted to walk up to the crater rather than ride a horse. The horses are small and look tired and overworked, lugging tourists up the hill. It was not a nice sight to see, and I’m surprised it is so popular. It is not a very hard walk up (we did it with my parents in their early 60s), just dusty, so bring or buy a face mask if that bothers you. I would say it took about 45 minutes to walk up, so as long as you don’t have poor fitness, it is possible and you can just take your time.

The only annoyance with the walk up and down was the horses themselves, constantly going up and down and using the same path as walkers, so we had to keep moving to the side. Hopefully people will start walking more, and considering whether the use of the poor horses is necessary or fair.

I otherwise recommend a visit here. It’s quite unusual and a straightforward trip from Manila.

This was a nice day-trip from Manila. We left at about 8am and caught a bus from Buendia station, asked the locals and were directed to a bus headed to Tanauan. At Tanauan a trike took us to the boat station in Talisay and from there the boat (2000 peso return, up to 7 people) took us across the lake to the village.

The walk up is pretty easy, but very dusty and full of horses. Definitely take with you a scarf or mask if you have one.
The view at the top is very nice, not just the crater, but the whole surrounding area.

Same trip on the way back, except we caught a jeepney for 25 peso each back to Tanauan - catch the bus back to Manila from the opposite side of the road to which you arrive.for the 4 of us, it worked out at about 1100 peso each in total.

The scenery was so beautiful. You will be riding a horse to the top of Taal Volcano. Enjoy coconut juice at there. Remeber to apply sun block lotion before you start your journey.
