This beach resort is well known to Filipinos. It caters well for large families and groups. Between two and three hours drive from Manila, depending on traffic. There are many accommodation options from small self-catering apartments to fully serviced beach resort hotel complex. On arrival, there is a 25 peso per person eco tax to pay on the entry road. After that, you are met by a wall of hawkers offering you accommodation, banana boat rides, and other experiences. It is best to say no thanks once you have heard the price, even if you are interested, as you can always go and negotiate a deal later.
The plan to had our camping outside the bustling city is indeed worthy. We gotta enjoy the beautiful weather and nice sceneries. The locals are also accomodating and friendly as they tend to our needs. Worth the 2 ½ days of stay.
The beach is a beautiful soft sand and resorts adjoining it keep it spotlessly clean. Tidal shifts are large and visitors can walk out to coral reefs at low tide. Authorized vendors offer a variety of engaging activities: jet skis, motor boat rides, dinner or lunch on a cruise, and banana boat rides.
There is Basura everywhere. Plastic, shoes, masks and all what you can imagine.
The beach is totally neglected by irresponsible tourists and the locals.
Avoid this place because is a real dump site and I even doing is healthy to swim there anymore, Manila bay is even cleaner than Matabungkay.
Due to poor planning, we werent able to book at Matabungkay Beach and Resort, but stayed at a resort nearby. The beach was very dirty, and water was not clear. We had to hire a boat to take us to an area where the water was clear and we could snorkel.
Wish the government could do something about this.
The ppace is still a go to travel by a lot of Filipinos. The location is perfect for family getway. However, I hope they control the number of businesses being built. Too much balsa. Too much bangka. Dangerous for children swimming. All in all it was a niceplace to go.
