Review of River's Edge

We made a trip to Amsterdam to check out the new pedestrian bridge over the Mohawk River, and decided to stay for an evening concert. Since we had to eat anyway, we decided to try River's Edge to kill some time. We were seated quickly right at 5 PM on the open patio. All the tables under cover were reserved. Fortunately it was beautiful weather and not very hot, which was good because they only have outdoor seating. Our server quickly came to bring menus and take our beverage order. They only had bottled beer, but had a decent enough selection. We ordered their onion straws appetizer, which was very good. For entrees we had the pulled pork sandwich, BBQ Chicken, and BBQ ribs. All were nicely done and tasted very good, with a nice selection of sides. Their "dirty rice" had crabmeat and shrimp in it, and their macaroni and cheese was good too. But the bacon wrapped asparagus was the hit!

This is a fairly pricey restaurant, but I cut them some slack because they're only open 5 days a week for lunch and dinner. They've got a short season to make any money.

They had a take-out window which was doing a brisk business selling food and drinks to the concert crowd.

Overall, we enjoyed our visit. The food was good, our server was very attentive, and the waterfront location was a good place to relax.

Great location, convenient. Nice summer ambiance but there was only 1 poor waitress on a Sunday afternoon and she just couldn't service adequately. We only stopped after a walk in the park for some snacks. Lemonade was pink water, onion petals were tasty especially with the chipotle mayo. Yikes on the nachos...stale chips, synthetic cheese sauce, black olives with pulled pork? That was weird and canned jalapeños. The rest of the menu looked interesting, so I will try again

There are options to eat in the outdoor pub area, on a tent-covered balcony or on a deck, all lining the river. Beautiful setting on a sunner evening. Food was good, somewhat imaginative, and reliable. Expect a bit of a wait if you happen to stop when a concert or festival is happening at the park. Service was pleasant and attentive. It is a popular spot for locals (which we are) but service seems to be the same whether visiting or local. They also have a window service where you can get burgers, fries, ice cream, etc. if you want to lounge in the park instead of having a table in the restaurant. This placeis only open in the summer, though.
