On the first day of our motorcycle tour through Japan, we rode from Tokyo to Matsumoto. Aside from the fantastic ride, we ended up at this great Ryokan.
It’s quietly located on a side street and when you walk through the lobby you end up in a courtyard with lounge chairs....a fantastic place to rest and relax.
My brother and I shared a room, which was a good size and traditional. It had the main room, a dressing room and bathroom with separate shower room / onsen. They also provided you with the necessary yukatas to relax in and wear when dining. Remember, you will sleep on futons, which are comfortable but difficult to get up from if you’re ‘older’ like me.
The dining experience was wonderful. A traditional Japanese meal / set menu, with beer and saki. The food was very good and the waitress spoke English, explaining everything to us.....which was a huge help!
In general, the Ryokan is really pleasant and I would not hesitate to go again.
As a side note, this is not a place to go if you’re looking to get out and enjoy the night life. It’s absolutely the place to go if you want to enjoy a quiet place and experience the Japanese culture.
