We stayed one night in room 418, a so called economy room. A friendly member of the staff, who spoke good English, explained a lot about the hotel and the city and brought our bags to the fourth floor because we couldn’t use the elevator. A good service, but bad for his back.
The room is a little dated, rather small as one can expect with an economy room but adequate. We had just enough place to store our bags, the room was clean and had good twin beds. The location indeed is very good, less than a 10 minutes’ walk from the castle. We could park our rental car for free and were allowed to park it until noon the next day. The breakfast buffet offers a lot of choice, but only Japanese style.
Two small things we would advise the hotel to improve. First, the hotel only has a sign with its name in Japanese. We twice passed the hotel with our car, without noticing we had reached our destination. A sign in English would be very helpful. Secondly, we needed some time before we invented how to switch of the lights in our room. An explanation in the hotelguide in the room would be of use.
Overall, a hotel we would book again, because it is a good location to stay in this city with a good night sleep for a reasonable price in an economy room.

This hotel is a real charmer. Not only is the location perfect for seeing the sights of Matsumoto, but it has that warm mountain lodge feel you see around Matsumoto. We stayed three nights during our vacation to Japan and were very happy. The staff is of course helpful and gracious. The tea you're served upon arrival is delicious. The room was nice and spacious, with a very beautiful bathroom. We really like the cozy little cafe for breakfast. They even have a van to take you to the train station...."Matsumotooooooo, Matsumotoooooo!" Happy place.

Very nice property. All the reception staff were very friendly and spoke very good english and also helped us with our bags. The included breakfast is a Japanese buffet breakfast however, since we wanted to have a continental breakfast, they changed the BFast coupon to be accepted at the cafe next door where we got a nice fixed menu continental breakfast.

The hotel is located at walking distance from the main attractions such as the riverside market and other local attractions including the Matsumoto Castle etc.

They have a good open parking area in front of the hotel, but they charge a parking fee. It was JPY 300 for our motorcycle for a night which I feel was not necessary as a motorcycle takes very little space. Not sure how much they charge for cars.

Totally happy with our stay at this hotel! We booked a Japanese style room in the Annex building for our family of two adults and two teenagers and found the price very reasonable after comparing rates for hotels. The room was quite spacious and perfect for our needs. They doubled up the futons, so the beds were quite comfortable.
We arrived by train in the evening after spending a long day doing the Japan Alpine Route. We walked from the train station, it's an easy 15 minute walk along some very nice streets. We received a lovely, warm welcome and were walked to our room by a staff member. We were in a corner room on the third floor and could see the top of Matsumoto castle lit up at night from one of our windows. Lovely quiet room with a very small bathroom attached, with a deep bath. However, I used the public bath, the ladies bath is in the Main building which involved a walk through the lobby in the hotel issued PJ's. The bath was fabulous and so relaxing after a big day of walking. The mens bath is in the Annex building.
The hotel is in a fantastic location with a lot of character - and the hotel has a lot of character too. I felt that photos didn't do it justice. There is a bakery around the corner but it doesn't open until about 10-ish. There are quite a few places to eat nearby at night and the river is a short stroll away. It's walking distance to all the main sights of Matsumoto.
After we left, we were on a train when my husband realised he'd left his phone back at the hotel. He rang the hotel and they located the phone and organised for it to be sent overnight to our next hotel in Yokohama as we were flying back to Australia the next day. A huge thank you to the staff for being so helpful and efficient! You have no idea how grateful we were!
Cannot fault this hotel, would stay again if we return to Matsumoto.

The hotel is located very close to the castle, which is the main tourist attraction of Matsumoto on a quiet street which has many hundred-year-old buildings. The building of the hotel itself is more than one hundred years old, however, it was beautifully renovated with state-of-art facilities and furniture and interior of late Meiji era. The room was spacious, furniture was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. It was just PERFECT. Breakfast buffet was filled with delicious local food and the restaurant actually has several original "Kusama Yayoi", who was born in Matsumoto, hanging on the wall which was amazing. The concierge, Ms. Choi, was very kind and poured local information to me which made the trip very efficient. The coffee shop serves one of the best coffee in town.

I want to highly recommend the hotel to anyone who visits Matsumoto.
