This very large market has an incredible number of fish stalls many of which serve to eat as well. Well worth a walk around and seeing the superb freshness, variety and quality of the fish. We went upstairs for lunch where we were able to sample some of the fish.

My personal opinion is that this is much better than Tsukiji market in Tokyo ,unless one is keen to watch the tuna auction( not sure whether it’s still being held at the new Tsukiji location ). Humongous oyster shucked al minute upon order. Very fresh amberjack, yellow tail , otoro(fatty tuna belly) , sea urchin for sashimi at decent prices at the sea food stalls where they will cut & slices upon order and provide tables and condiments where one can stand and eat immediately. Alternatively there are small restaurants at the periphery of the market but freshness and prices will differ. There are also grilled seafood for those who are not raw fish/seafood fans. The fruits were also really good, especially the melon and strawberries. Really enjoyable if you are a sashimi /raw seafood foodie.

Foodies will love this market with lots of stalls with Japanese food, such as fish and vegetables. Fun to walk around and see for yourself. There are also small stores.

Nice market with restaurants and wholesale foods, but totally skippable if you had been to Tsukiji Market in Tokyo or Nishiki Market in Kyoto.

Omicho market in Kanazawa is a must visit. It is very interesting because you get to see fresh seafood of all types up close and personal. Also dry goods and fresh fruits and flowers. The market is very clean and spacious and even if there are many people you can go about in ease. Just a short bus ride away from Kanazawa station. You also get to sample many goodies free of charge as mostly all the stalls hand out stuff to try.
