Set in a lush tropical landscape, Rosewood Phuket blends seamlessly into nature, offering every guest a piece of Thai paradise. The resort’s innovative and environmentally sensitive design is mixed with subtle Thai influences, and blends organically into a lush natural landscape, while sun-weathered shores and glistening waters help celebrate luxury island living. The seclusion and privacy of the resort really makes you feel like you’re on a surreal island hideaway. With beautiful hillside forest surroundings and a breathtaking crystal-clear ocean as your everyday view, you can experience a luxurious calm like never before.

I stayed in a Partial Ocean View Pool Villa, which featured a king-size bed, partitioned living room area, elegant bathroom with double vanities, and an outside courtyard with deep soaking bathtub and rain shower. Soft neutral tones were utilized throughout, infused with natural light through retractable floor-to-ceiling windows. The room’s expansive terrace came with distant views of the Andaman Sea and was equipped with a daybed, sofa and private pool.

There are four distinct restaurants at the resort which all guarantee an authentic, delectable Phuket experience. Find distinct regional flavors and simple seafood-themed dishes in a rustic setting at Ta Khai. For a contemporary culinary experience with a taste of Italy and the view of the beachfront pool and Andaman Sea, check out Red Sauce. Discover freshly prepared seafood with bold flavors from the ocean at The Shack. If a laidback yet sophisticated poolside lounge and bar deck area are what you’re looking for, you’ll certainly want to head to Mai.

The freeform pool overlooks the shimmering pristine waters of the bay. It is sectioned into a lap pool, activity pool, and a children’s pool.

Next to the hilltop lobby is the beautiful Asaya Spa, one of the highlights of my stay at the resort, which offers the Rosewood’s innovative spa concept. The spa is designed to provide a unique opportunity for guests to discover their own true path to wellness.

Wellbeing is a big part of the Rosewood Phuket experience. Its one-of-a-kind Asaya approach to wellness allows you to explore what you need, based upon your past experiences and the future you would like to create for yourself. In addition to a series of spa treatments, guests can also choose from a wide array of holistic sessions, including Meditation, Yoga, Chi Nei Tsang, and even Muay Thai.

Upon arrival, experts create bespoke experiences for guests and help them choose organic, homegrown herbs and ingredients to be used in tailored treatments. Everything at Asaya, including the extensive treatment and retreat menu, feeds back to five pillars: Emotional Balance, Fitness and Nutrition, Physical Therapies, Skin Health, and Community. My Asaya wellness journey didn’t stop once I left the spa, thanks to the daily stretches, mindfulness exercises and natural beauty products that I was recommended to add into my daily routine. I also loved that everything and anything I could have dreamed of wellness wise was available on the menu.

Whether you’re looking to relax after a long journey to Phuket, or if you’re just curious to learn more about your body with a holistic approach, the resort’s Asaya Wellness Program is perhaps one of the most bespoke options I’ve come across. Almost every single element of the treatment is catered to the individual, and ensures that you get the most out of the experience in the way that you want. By taking into account that each visitor is different with his or her own specific needs, there is no better way to become a better version of yourself.

Located at Emerald Bay in southwestern Phuket, the Rosewood Phuket is nestled in an idyllic beachfront palm cove. The resort captures the essence of the island’s spirit with a magnificent design which offers the best of both worlds: it is conveniently close to Patong’s attractions, yet far enough to offer an exclusive and ultra-private ambiance.

THE PROPERTY: The property is influenced by its geographical and cultural location, the sophisticated yet minimalist design organically blends softly colored, contemporary aesthetics with the lush tropical greenery. The resort is built on a hillside, with the accommodations and facilities set on terraced grounds that cascade down towards the beach and Andaman Sea.

The resort’s lobby area is located at the top of the hill: a short driveway leads to a circular courtyard with an elephant sculpture at its center, the spa on one side and a stunning welcome pavilion on the other side. The welcome pavilion features an Instagram-worthy lobby filled with lily pad ponds, a stylish reception area, and an open-sided lounge that allow guests to take in the surrounding natural beauty, including hilltop forests, lakes, and wetlands.

The resort’s environmentally sensitive design incorporates sustainable practices, including rain water retention ponds to provide for the entire resort’s water supply, the largest solar renewable energy system for any Phuket hotel, landscaped rooftops to naturally cool the interiors for energy conservation and the retention of existing trees and indigenous foliage with the protection of sacred 150-year-old banyan trees situated in the resort grounds.

THE ROOM: I stayed in the Partial Ocean View Pool Villa which I found spacious and elegantly decorated.

The villa features a super comfortable king-size bed which is partitioned off from a living room area that has plenty of natural light from the retractable floor-to-ceiling doors that lead to an expansive terrace with views of the Andaman Sea and equipped with a double daybed for lounging, dining table and your own private pool.

The décor is cool and harmonious, crafted from natural materials. Neutral color palates and subtle Thai influences create a stylish elegance with an authentic sense of place. There’s soft furnishings in natural earthy tones, and furniture designed in dark wood paired with the sophistication of cool creamy marble as you make your way into the spacious bathroom, where a freestanding bathtub with separate rain shower are situated in an outdoor courtyard (there is also an indoor shower). I loved the concept of his and hers sinks and wardrobes with elegant bath robes and slippers. All the plush comforts you could possibly dream of and never want to leave this serene sanctuary.

The room comes with complimentary Nespresso machine and capsules, tea and a nice self-service bar and all amenities you need. The chic furnishings are combined with homey touches such as books, photo frames, and vases. The overall effect is incredibly relaxing.

THE FOOD: The resort features several excellent dining options that are all a must try.

Ta Khai is the resort’s signature restaurant. It exudes a rustic Thai village ambience and serves authentic dishes planned around the local fishermen’s daily catch. Stop by the salad bar for some made-in-front-of-you som tam or slide into a table under the stars for a night of southern Thai feasting on massaman curries, roti and seafood pad thai.

Red Sauce is an Italian restaurant with open kitchen and a shaded outdoor terrace overlooking Emerald Bay. It is also the location of the resort’s breakfast buffet, which is displayed around the open kitchen, serving wellness juices, mountains of tropical fruit, just-out-the-oven breads and pastries, cheeses, eggs and waffles.

Located below Red Sauce is a rustic poolside restaurant called The Shack. It features an open kitchen with hot stone oven and charcoal grill and offers an array of simply prepared yet delicious seafood dishes, pizzas and chargrilled burgers.

Next to the The Shack is Mai, the resort’s only bar and chill-out lounge. Mai is the place to relax poolside during the day before it transforms into a sophisticated bar with chill music and cool vibes in the evening.

THE POOL: Set in a relaxed beachside environment where sun decks and walkways blend harmoniously with the tropical landscaping, the organic free-form swimming pool is one of the resort’s main focal points. The huge pool wraps around towering palm trees, tall grass and floating platforms with stylish loungers, creating a sense of privacy and exclusivity. The pool area is divided into several sections by wooden pathways: a designated lap pool, an activity pool and children’s pool sections. I spent most of my day lounging by the pool, while pool attendants are always on hand to set up the lounges, attend to any request and take food and refreshment orders.

THE SPA: The resort’s spa is named Asaya which means “understanding where you come from” in Sanskrit. The idea is to embrace your personal journey to self-acceptance and self-discovery. The integrative Asaya Wellness Program will give you a complete overhaul with specially tailored programs featuring holistic therapies, such as Sound Healing with singing bowls, Watsu in a special heated pool, energy healing through Reiki, abdominal massage with Chi Nei Tsang, as well as meditation and yoga. Whether you’re looking to relax after a long journey to Phuket, or if you’re just curious to learn more about your body with a holistic approach, the resort’s Asaya Wellness Program is perhaps one of the most amazing not to be missed spa programs that I have come across.

THE SERVICE: The service at the resort, from check-in to check-out and everything in between, was truly exceptional. No request was too much from anyone. The hotel manager, Sandra Watermann, went above and beyond the call of duty and was seemingly everywhere at all times. She personally greeted me at check-in, then a few minutes later at the pool, then at the restaurant and even answered the hotel phone. She sets a fine example for the entire staff and is always present to insure that the guests were happy and the resort was operating at peak level. Bravo!

I am sure to return to the Rosewood Phuket and will be looking forward to try other Rosewood resorts around the globe.
