We took two tours with Mr. Steele and they were wonderful. We did the Surabaya Tour of markets and alleys, museums, and historical sites. It was varied with something for everyone and I bought some amazing gourmet pepper which would have cost me a bundle in the USA. Then, we took a tour Craft tour in the countryside and saw brass workers, stone cutters, bead makers, and a fascinating women's cooperative for batik. It was easily one of the best tours ever. I can't wait to return and go to Madura. Thanks, GS!

A fellow cruise passenger arranged this tour for a small group with Graeme Steel who turned out to be an excellent, well informed and courteous guide. He took us to many unusual and intriguing places: an island schooners wharf, a colonial bank, a plantation HQ, Chinatown, Arab Quarter, gigantic food markets, a cigarette factory, a temple, a traditional quarter, a museum and a colonial hotel. At every location, he had interesting stories to tell.

Our party of four journeyed through towns outside if Surabaya visiting historic ancient sites of the Majapahit Kingdom. Graeme's explanations and keen knowledge of this history brings it alive before your eyes. We visited the stone carving center of Java, seeing men carve statues to be exported around the world. Next we visited a Musuem and after that a batik village, famous for its completed batik fabric. We bought a few sarongs at excellent prices for such fine quality. We were able to see all the steps in the batik process up close. We enjoyed a nice Javaese lunch at a hotel along the way and finally stopped at the glass bead village. Here we selected some beads that are hand crafted in the village. The choices and prices were very attractive.
The trip was wonderful and Graeme Steel had it all organized perfectly. His humor and knowledge of the area and language made the trip outstanding.

We booked a tour with Graeme for the day when our cruise ship was in Surabaya. Graeme responded to my emails promptly and the booking procedure was seamless. He provided a picture of himself and the van we would be travelling in prior to the trip and that made meeting up at the port a lot easier. The tour itself was one of the best I have ever been on. We saw different types of architecture, markets, temples, a historic hotel, the docks to see the fishing boats, a cigarette factory-the day was full and Graeme did a wonderful job of explaining everything to us. He has a wonderful knowledge of the city and the people. Highly recommend this tour

What a wonderful surprise to have Graeme be our city guide for the day! I understood every word and his knowledge of the history of Surabaya was outstanding, the visit to the local market was amazing, he always took the point and had someone always follow to assure non were lost. So much history with the Dutch and the old buildings, so much to learn about this wonderful city, he took the time to answer questions from the entire group ( 11 ) never rushing but always on the move. A great day for sure and I would highly recommend his services if you find your self in the area. One of the very best tours of our entire 6 week tour
